I have a friend at work who comes to me with his computer needs since I'm the closest thing to a computer geek he knows. Yesterday he brought me his brand new laptop and said in an exasperated tone "Please take this thing and put Windows 7 on it. I just can't use windows 8 anymore. It is AWFUL." He is a low tech, lite PC user. This is the exact type of person that Windows 8 was supposed to appeal to, and he can't get away from it fast enough.
I am leaning towards leaving Windows 8 on it and just installing Classic Shell; I suspect that is the far easier solution.
I immediately put classic shell start menu on my Windows 8 at release. I bypass the garbage Metro and disable the active corner menus.
It works very well. I am actually happy with it. I haven't installed the SP though. Leaving well enough alone.
