Craig Scott Leaves CCP for Bigpoint

Craig Scott has joined Bigpoint as lead designer a "new breed" of MMOG after parting ways with CCP, where he most recently served as design director for EVE Online. "I am happy to be with Bigpoint now," Scott said in a statement posted on GamesIndustry International. "Bigpoint has major experience in the future sector of free-to-play, online games. Furthermore, I expect to have much space for trying new things, which is a premise for making really innovative games and which, of course, means a lot of fun for both the teams and the users. That's what I see Bigpoint is currently about."

Eve didn't start as F2P and its hardly F2P now. Want me to start listing crap F2P games?

Hardly F2P? You can fund your game with ingame cash in perpetuity

. Are there good F2P games that are good games, don't fleece customers, and don't sell power? Yes, there are, and the number is growing.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to ask for examples here. I can't think of a single one that hasn't been eventually dragged down by the FTP shenanigans (MWO, WOT, Hawken, War Thunder, et al., I'm looking at YOU...)

Path of Exile made me totally rethink the F2P model with quality games. I personally love it.

I think anyone who says free to play games are automatically bad isn't really knowledgeable about games today. Are there bad, cash grab free to play games that are pay to win? Yes, of course. Are there good F2P games that are good games, don't fleece customers, and don't sell power? Yes, there are, and the number is growing.

To say a game is bad JUST because it's "free to play" is just being narrow-minded and ignoring many games as evidence to the contrary.

This isn't to say whatever F2P Bigpoint makes won't be crappy, however.

I was pretty interested in this until I saw free 2 play, then I stopped reading.

Because why? EVE is free to play and no one complains about that

I had to look up Bigpoint. They were responsible for that horrible browser version of Battlestar Galactica. Doesn't sound like he's swapping companies for artistic innovation.

Dear Craig,
Have fun convincing your corporate overlords to step outside the dry and dated formula that MMO's are today.
We look forward to the new version of WoW.

Bigpoint makes mostly casual free to plays, not big titles meant to compete with WoW. For example, they made Battlestar Galactica Online, which isn't exactly a WoW clone. Their games may not be on the same level of depth or popularity as big name MMOs, but they are different.
Thou art an artless, greasy tallow-catch.
