John Carmack Offers QuakeCon Talk

John Carmack's tech talk is a traditional highlight of id's annual QuakeCon, which was just announced for this July, but since he stepped down as id's technical director in November, it seemed logical this would not be part of this year's gathering. Surprisingly, John tweets that he is willing to continue the practice, saying: "I have offered to give my traditional talk at Quakecon, we'll see if it is accepted."

John Carmack and Quake are just not relevant in gaming any more. Time to shut it down.

I think it's a matter of opportunity. Quakecon is only once a year. I can go to that and still bang my hot wife the other 360 days. Assuming I was interested in going to Quakecon.

My days of Quakecon were some of the best when I lived in Austin in the 90s. What a time...

I never envied people attending Quakecon while I was having hourly and daily sexual encounters with a girlfriend during those times.

whoupdee do... What about the guys who went to the con with their girlfriends and got the big chicken dinner experience from the whole thing?

You can have sex all the time D-bag... you can not attend awesome events that make memories that last a life time.

Please anything but listening to this blow hard yap about 1990 technology orgasms he had.

Game development is about working with tools these days not flapping your trap for 2 hours about driver development.

Please keep John fired as he should be for spending all of ids money on his pet rocket project.

Frankly I don't see the point to QuakeCon. There are no new Quake games, Quake Live recently had Mac and Linux support dropped, and Carmack isn't even with id anymore.

What is the point?

They still have Quake tournaments. It's a LAN party, not your usual ____Con. It wasn't until recently (probably when Bethesda bought them up, actually) that it started turning into a publisher-specific marketing bash.

My guess would be to announce Fallout 4. They should probably just change the name to Bethfest or something though. A Quake (or even Doom) game hasn't been the star of the show for a long time now.

Since he worked for id Bethesda since the last Quakecon, it makes sense that he speaks.
