Resident Evil 4 SD & HD Comparison

Capcom Unity offers side-by-side comparisons of the original Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 4 HD, the recently announced improved edition of the survival/horror sequel, which is coming to Windows PCs next month. They show the impact of the game's new high definition textures compared to the cruder look of the original, saying users can switch on the fly between SD and HD graphics via a menu toggle. They also note that for those with high-end systems, extreme resolutions are available, if not officially supported: "And while 1920x1080 is the official supported resolution, you can crank things up to 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 if ya like - though be aware these aren't formal suggestions so performance isn't assured. We've had it running great at those sizes, but stick to 1920x1080 for optimal Plagas punishment." They also offer links to this trailer of the HD edition, showing it cranking along at 60 frames per second.

A direct link to an mp4? Man, they really went all out this time.
Actually, I like to download and play locally. I don't really like streaming due to Internet speeds, hiccups, etc.

I am quite aware, even with the patch the game was still missing tons of lighting effects from the gamecube version.

The most important question to me is whether this game supports mouse aim. They've already confirmed that there's no mouse support in the inventory screen. I need to know if there's mouse support when I'm looking around and aiming.

Agreed. I really hope they add proper mouse support.

quite a few of their earlier posted shots of the HD version show LOTS of texture stretching on anything that isnt a figure. AKA they are cherry picking screenshots.

Fun game in any case.

It's likely they are just upping the resolution of the textures, not reskinning anything, so any texture misalignments, stretching, etc. that was there originally is still going to be there in this version.

No they're not, you can toggle between both HD and original textures within the game...

I think people are forgetting that this is a game from 2005, of course it's going to look dated.

But even better, it looks miles better than the previous PC port even with mods, which had missing lighting effects that made Leon basically superimposed with the same shade of gray wherever he went. There was also lower polygon count.

No thanks, Capcom. If you're not removing GFMFWL from your various titles, I don't see why I should give you any more money.

Because this game doesn't use GFWL and Capcom hasn't used GFWL since Operation Raccoon City?

The Steam page says "Native keyboard and mouse support with customizable key binding, mouse sensitivity, and mouse acceleration settings."

Okay, the textures look a bit better... although I do like the old boards one better. Mostly because it makes it look okay, where with the sharper textures all I see is the squareness of all the objects. See HD dosn't mean you just use high res textures. It means you would go back and add more polys to the models to make everything smoother WITH the new textures so they don't look more out of place.

Ohh yea, I love how the tree is updated, but the fence to the side of it isn't. I'm sure after the coffee kicks in I might find more.
