WoW to Add Level-up Purchases

A Warlords of Draenor "scouting report" on the World of Warcraft website has more on the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, and what it adds. This includes discussion of the level 90 cap this will bring, and keeping with recent indications also has word they are experimenting with allowing players to purchase level 90 upgrades for their characters:
We’ve also heard feedback from players that they’d be interested in boosting multiple characters to 90, including alts they play with friends on other factions and realms. We’ve been evaluating ways to make that possible without having players go through roundabout methods (such as purchasing multiple boxes and performing multiple character transfers), and in the near future we’ll be testing out a feature that gives you the option to purchase a character upgrade directly. We’ll have more information to share later—including details on our character-upgrade plans for Asian regions where players don’t buy expansion boxes—but you’ll start seeing pieces of the process soon on the PTR, so keep an eye out.

Has anyone calculated the cost of starting this game from scratch, 1 yr sub, base game, all expansions?
Well they just had a "all exp except MoP" for $9 during the holidays. And it looks like that's the standard ed. now which is going for $19+39 for MoP. MoP was down to $14 I think it was, plus $179/yr if you're paying monthly.

Good thing there are private servers, that doesnt have crap like that.

Knockoff purses, clothes, DVDs/Games, jewelry, etc... Yay for theft!

What a ridiculous comment. There is no theft going on there, the software has a base cost and they aren't using any server resources except patches which are distributed via torrents as well. At worst it's a violation of the EULA. Private servers are at best a minor population of player anyway.

The Private property system was always one sidedly criminal from the outset. One look at the infinite extension of copyright law is example of corporate theft from 'honest' businessmen. So really the 'theft' by gamers is retaking the commons from the those who originally claimed nature and setup a legal and law system was corrupt and one sided from the outset.

A system of fairness could be created but corporations dont want that and most of the public is too stupid to understand what copyright is and why infinite extension of it is evil.

Yeah well I've only got myself to blame...for posting with 3 hours of sleep. Blizz not paying attention to the boot market is to blame damn it!

And decided to resub at least for 3 months to see how the game has changed. Though I think I'm going to transfer at least my mage off my old server that I was playing on, it's got a 0.3-.5:1 A/H ratio now, and when I was playing it was 1:.9 or 1:1.2. Back at release it was an ultra high pop server and one of the first servers to get a split.

What they should do is sell character slots for those people who have all their slots filled. Maybe they already do that. I don't know.

Maybe. They have paid for this game's development and maintenance 10x over by now. I would speculate that they're using it to fund other projects.

In this biz world it isn't where you've been but where you are going. So now it doesn't matter how much it has made, is how is it going to make us more? Sad really.

Is there a point to even playing this game any more? Why earn anything when you can just buy it?

Perhaps you can post a list of things that can be bought with real money from Blizzard and a list of things that must be earned through gameplay to support your point?

There are definitely games out there that are enjoyable from level 1 onwards. WoW is definitely NOT one of those games. I (un)subbed from Vanilla WoW ages ago after my n-th *insert creature here* pelt piece of quest...

They actually revamped a lot of the low level questing so there's a constant storyline thread. I found it more enjoyable than vanilla's leveling, but the vast majority of the population is at end game. You don't really get the 'mo' experience of an MMORPG until you've hit max level.
