I think many people would rather see Early Access go away, but I for one like it and hope it stays. Greenlight was a good idea but it just didn't work well. It didn't stop boatloads of crapware from getting on Steam.
Early access going away would mean Valve couldn't take their 30% for unfinished software, silly. They're not going to let that happen.
Basically what made Steam the "best" of the digital distribution markets (i.e. they actually vetted the stuff they sold) is going to go away. And I gotta admit, it seems like a smart business move on Valve's part because why make your 30% for doing
something when you can earn the same amount and do absolutely
nothing for it except screwing over the expectations of your consumers?
The way I read this whole thing was, "Well Greenlight seemed like a great idea here at Valve but we accidentally fired (oh, I'm sorry peer reviewed out) the guy that ran it and no one else wants to deal with it so we're dumping it!"
