GameSpot has a correction from Square Enix saying the upcoming Hitman
game has not been cancelled, contrary to a
report that emerged today. The publisher clarifies that a AAA Hitman is still
in the works at IO Interactive separate from the mobile game being developed by
Square Enix Montreal:
"There's a bit of confusion around the Hitman
projects currently in development at Square Enix-owned studios and so we wanted
to take the time to clarify what each studio is working on to clear up some of
this confusion. Io-Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be
coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on
mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise,"
the representative said. "We look forward to sharing more details about these
titles later this year."
They don't need to tell me a game is "high quality" or "AAA title", we all get they are trying to publish something good. Anyone who's been playing games for a while, know what's written on the box isn't to be trusted (or webpage).
Good news. I can only hope that IO learned from its mistakes with Absolution and returns to proper, Blood Money-esque form. At the very least, the increased memory of the new consoles should ensure that the levels aren't so linear and divided... hopefully.
