Battlefield 4 China Ban?

ZDNet reports that Battlefield 4 is being banned in China, though the PCGames.com.cn story cited as the source of this does not seem to exist at this time. A prior report they link is still online, however, reflecting the Chinese military's concerns at how the country is portrayed in the military shooter sequel, as the game's is set in 2020 with unrest in China and possible resulting revolution being integral to the plot. According to ZDNet, the apparently deleted story stated Battlefield 4 "smears China's image" and was a new form of "cultural invasion." Thanks Techie News.

Of course China is going to ban this. Anyone who has played through the campaign would expect this. I'm surprised it took this long. You play as US military killing hundreds if not thousands of stupid Chinese soldiers. You help some magically charismatic Chinese pacifist civilian who the Chinese soldiers instantly change sides for without question, with a revolution highly suggested. It's propaganda at its best. If only they'd managed to work in the pollution angle somehow.

Imagine if they made a game where you played the Chinese military attacking major US cities and killing countless dumb Americans.

Most of the politicians would implode and the media shitstorm would be legendary

Funny how America never stops to think that maybe other people actually like their country they same way they do theirs. Has anything china done worse than rounding up all the native americans that were left after we slaughtered them all for jesus because this was the new promised land and stuffed them onto reservations?

America has done more evil shit to people than almost any other country on earth in about the shortest amount of time and we think because we had a couple of good years during WWII that nothing else matters.

Would be amazing to see the level collapse due to lack to maintenance rather than explosives.

China is such a stupid country

Care to draw some examples?

China and the U.S. are equally stupid when it comes to their governments. The people however of these countries have little say in what their government does.

Tiananmen Square. Need I say more? I can go on and on about their policies and lack of environmental procedures too. The country is a toxic wasteland.

If you wanna play that game, you could just as well say :
"Kent State Massacre, need I say more?"

Remember, the Jew killing ideas of WW2 were imported to Germany from the U.S., since back then the U.S. had a policy of eugenics and was not terribly kind or tolerant of the 'unwanted' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics).
One of the fortunate effects of WW2 was making an enemy of a nation with a similar mindset to our own, effectively changing our own minds, and making life better for minorities over here.
Do you think that Henry Ford was somehow unusual in his support for the nazi movement? It was a moderately mainstream idea at the time.
Funny how the history of eugenics is not taught in school (other than maybe a 1 sentence blurb)...

You could say that "that's history".
But then again, you can say the same thing about Tienanmen square.

Find me a country who's hands are clean. Good luck.

Every nation has their own propaganda and historical 'clean up' efforts.
In Japan, WW2 is taught as 'the war to purge Asia of western imperialism'. (Which it technically did (ignoring the Japanese imperialism part). Ever consider why there were Europeans in Asia for Japan to fight with?)
And the 'Rape of Nanking' is only mentioned as an invasion where nothing unusual worth mentioning happened.

Try putting the shoe on the other foot. Imagine BF4 had the U.S. invading 'innocent' nations (Not nations portrayed as a threat, just purely victim nations).
Think there wouldn't be a political crap storm over that? One of the biggest entertainment titles in the country portraying the U.S. as a villain? Fox5 would be interviewing irate senators nightly.

Would the U.S. government ban the title? Not likely.
Would the U.S. government let its irritation be known by other means, such as by legislating onerous restrictions on certain kinds of video games, nerfing EA's future income ("Think of the children")? Likely.

Not so. America is worse because people actually can affect government and its policies. They simply choose not to out of apathy and greed.

And Darks calling someone or something else dumb is the height of irony. Put that clown on ignore.
"Van Gogh painted alone and in despair and in madness and sold one picture in his entire life. Millions struggled alone, unrecognized, and struggled as heroically as any famous hero. Was it worthless? I knew it wasn't."

Doubt China cares about how the are perceived. The previous administration made it clear that economic ties and open trade were the only thing that truly matters. Everyone in the so called developed world forgot all that stuff about the Tiananmen square massacre once China showed the money lol..

Might as well spare there citizen from the inventory mind boggling bad net code. Plus I would be insulted to if our Canadian soldier's lateral movement looked like Beiber trying to sidestep wearing skinny jeans 2 sizes to small.

Not only that, but people apparently felt that the threat of North Korea invading the US seemed plausible enough to make Homefront about it.

And it's not as if your game gets sold in North Korea anyway, so they have nothing to ban. Win Win situation.
