Activision Blocking Linux Gabriel Knight Re-release

The Pinkerton Road forums reveal that the upcoming Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition will not be released for Linux as originally planned (thanks Xil via [Phoronix]. This is the doing of rights-holder Activision, but even the developers at Phoenix Online Studios are at a loss as to why:
Figured this deserved its own thread. I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but my previous statement that GK would be available on Linux turns out to be incorrect. I can't even begin to imagine why, but Activision isn't allowing the game to be made for that platform. Just PC, Mac, Android, and iOS devices.

I'd always assumed this came from the original IBM PC, and PC was shorter than typing IBM when differentiating it from C64s or Apples or whatever.

Yeah, that presumably is the origin, but these days it's been corrupted to mean Windows in places like the above list of supported platforms... After all, these days a Mac is basically just a standard PC, and the only difference is the OS... But, they kept the old terminology from back when it made some sense to describe seperate architectures, and now misuse it where the architectures are all the same but the OS differs...

Right, but C64s and Apples were always PCs, too, as opposed to dumb terminals or main frames. The term isn't a whole lot more wrong now than it was back then, and it's not really like anyone doesn't know what they mean.

(Oh, and saying "PC" to mean "Windows" really annoys me... My PC is just as much a PC, even though it's not running Windows!)

I'd guess it is due to a lack of QA and support resource at Acti.

Does it count as irony that they'll allow it on Android (which is based on Linux), but not a traditional Linux distro? I guess it's not the Linux kernel they have an issue with, at least... Must be some of that commie GNU stuff!

What BS. Activision aren't even doing anything with this game (not funding its development or anything). They just have a grudge against linux aparently. Or like has been mentioned, some weird backroom deal.

Activision are the worst. Looks like we won't be seeing Call Of Duty 15 on the Steambox!

Some deal with Microsoft?

Nah, everyone knows that Linux users are a bunch of pirates who don't pay for games.
