So sorry for the loss Blue. Truly feel as if I've lost one of my pets with the way we've all been tuned in to her antics in life, especially her craftyness with dealing with the backyard gate. From the day she was introduced to us, to this sad day, she will surely be missed.

To Hudson, she got past the greatest gates of all, RIP.

Blue, so sorry for the loss of HtWD. She was like a member of the extended family for everyone that is a regular reader here, I'm sure. My condolences to you, Mrs. Blue, and Gunnar

Like so many others have said, I've read about Hudson the Wonder Dog for well over 10 years and feel like I know her and her antics better than some people I actually see every day.

My thoughts are with you all Blue - it's so sad to lose anyone dear, but you were so very lucky to have the gift of sharing her life together.

With all the Hudson stories you've shared over the years, I felt like I knew that dog without ever meeting it. Sorry for your loss. Having recently put down our 15 year old retriever...In my experience, nothing but time will heal. Dogs love us unconditionally, and they are always there to greet you like its the happiest day of their life, no matter what kind of day you had. That's a part of our family that I miss.

RIP Hudson.

Sorry for your loss Blue, may the love and memories you shared give you and yours strength, and in it find comfort in healing

"The best friend a man has in this world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son and daughter that he had reared with loving care may become ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him when he may need it most. Man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees and do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our head. The only absolutely unselfish friend a man may have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog.

A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, when the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he can be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of a pauper as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert... he remains.

When riches take wings and reputations fall to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast into the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies, and when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his grave side will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws and his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death."

-The Phrase "Man's Best Friend" originated in a court of law. On October 28, 1869, A man's dog (named old drum), was shot to death by a neighboor. Animals had no rights back in those days, but the man wanted justice and so he hired 3 lawyers to sue the man who shot his dog. One of these lawyers, named George Graham Vest, is given credit for originally coining the phrase "Man's Best Friend" during his final summation to the jury. By the time he was finished with his speech, the jury only took 2 minutes to reach a verdict. The jury awarded the victim $5 (a very large amount of money back then). The jury also wanted the man to be sent to prison, but there were no laws governing this type of incident back then so the judge was not able to honor the jury's request for prison time.

The quotation above is a record of the final summation given by the pet owner's lawyer
"This is more than anyone can bear, but we will persevere." -Vort

Very sad. As a regular reader I've read quite a bit about your dog.

I did some searching. I believe this is the first reference to Hudson on Blue's News.

I've posted all of 3 times on this board but having 2 dogs myself, I can only barely imagine how much this sucks for you two right now. My sincerest condolences. Give Gunnar a big hug for me, as I'm sure he's gonna miss having the other pack member around just as much as we will.

:'( I am deeply sorry for your loss Blue. Your site has been my go-to site for gaming info and "blueness" since 1996"ish". I've read over 70% of your 'Out of the Blue' sections, sometimes after hospital stays or such I would go back JUST to read how things were in the Bluetower.

I've read a lot about Hudson over the past decade and ~ 1/3...

I'm sure you, Mrs. Blue and Gunnar are heartbroken but remember you and your "clan" have more fans and supporters than you realize.
