Just wanted to say that like a lot of people on here I always enjoyed reading the Hudson anecdotes you shared with us.

May the memories far outlast the pain.

Kipling said it best:

THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find - it's your own affair, -
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,
When it comes to burying Christian clay.
Our loves are not given, but only lent,
At compound interest of cent per cent,
Though it is not always the case, I believe,
That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve;
For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,
A short-time loan is as bad as a long -
So why in - Heaven (before we are there)
Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

It took me years to get over my dog dying. Finally I bought another pet--a ferret--because I knew there was no chance of another dog filling the hole.

Good luck, Blue. You're in my thoughts.

Thanks man! Appreciated!

Ditto here for all others that have and will suffer a loss. Sad fact of life.

Best thing you can do - after a proper length of grieving - is get a new pet and love them just as much!

I haven't replace my cat (Mel Gibson) mainly due to I now live alone and am always at work for extended lengths of time and would not be fair to keep a new cat locked up. Worse if I had a dog.

My sympathy goes out to Rico, Darth, and others that have lost someone this year. I have a coworker who lost his aunt earlier this year, his mother about a month ago, and now his wife's father (who felt fine a week ago). I feel horrible for him.

I hope 2014 (god, I feel old typing that, like we should have flying cars or something) is better for everyone.

I had my best friend killed by a car a month ago, I can never replace her and her amazing ability to make me smile when I was laid off, when my mom passed away, and when I broke up with a girlfriend. I've never felt such gut-wrenching pain. I know how you feel and I'm praying for you, Mrs. Blue, and Gunnar.

So sorry for your loss, my condolences.

I second what someone else on here said; the best cure for the sadness seems to be to try and fill that void (though you never can completely) with a new life to love.

And speaking of love, hug your other pooch a lot in the coming days. They know of the lose too and sometimes take it harder than we do.

Sorry to hear about your dog. My buddy (a yellow Lab) is turning 11 in February and thankfully is doing well, but I know that he probably only has another two or three good years left. It really sucks because dogs give you everything they have and expect very little from you in return; they just want to be with you and have your praise. I've experienced three dogs passing over the years, my dad's and two of my mom's that I grew up with, but never my own. It's sad when it happens but you have to remember the great times you shared with them.

You warned us it was coming but it still comes as shock. You've made Hudson's character so real for us with your posts over the years I feel the hurt of his loss personally. I'm so sorry Blue.

One of the few times I have read terrible news on Blues.
The only remedy for the sadness is well known to be lots of time.
Hudson had 13 pretty great years thanks to her family that you can remember all the good times from.
