Out of the Blue

I saw some of you grumbling about doing badly in our NFL picks this week, so I thought I'd trot out my 6-7 record to make you feel better. By dipping below .500 for the week, my alternate plan takes shape: Maybe it's time to make my picks, and then just reverse them. I need to do something... achieving the same outcome as a coin-flip would is not getting it done.

Pretty sure I'm 8-5 this week. Jets over the Saints was probably the biggest upset. Greenbay is done for the year, and Bengals and Dolphins operate on some quantum level of skill that changes depending on fan expectations. Ravens, Falcons, and Texans were supposed to be dominate teams this year based on last year's performance. All 3 have fallen flat. 49ers looked like they were going to do the same things, but seem to have picked up their game some. All in all an odd, hard to predict year.

Yeah, I was 8-5 this week too. And I had to update this week's pick against GB because yeah, they're done for the season - fucking sigh! And yeah, it's funny because people always bitch about blowouts so when things are finally up in the air and it's close they're griping about the lack of predictability - myself included. I still think it's been a pretty interesting season so far and watched a lot of good football regardless of who takes the cake this year. Same with college. Good year for football.

I've noticed a lot of actors do a tentpole every year or two to "pay the bills" then do smaller, more interesting things inbetween. Clooney, Fassbender, Bale, and Jackman all follow this pattern, for example. RDjr seems to do mostly tentpoles, however.

I can't remember what actor it was, but I remember them saying, years ago, the key to their success was doing one movie for the studio, and one for themselves, over and over. So they'd do a huge summer blockbuster or such, and then go do something totally arty that they really liked. And it makes sense. You get the big studio money, and you also get to do what you like.
I wonder if they still do contracts like "here is 300 million, you have to do X number of movies, of which x-2 aren't named yet". You could tell that happened a lot in the 80s and 90s. SOme terrible fucking movies with big names.

They're probably paying Jackman 5-10mil for 5-6 months of work, I doubt he'll ever say no if they keep asking and in his place I wouldn't either.

The Falcons are the most frustrating team, they have it all there on paper but the team has no chemistry whatsoever and horrible coaching to boot. The Steelers and Dolphins are totally unpredictable IMO.

I think the Bills are better than their record, despite their QB challenges they've done pretty well against some good teams.

I suspect he's doing the same thing as Downey, where they start to make various comments designed to increase their paycheck when they finally commit ("well, you know, I can't do this forever...<checks account balance>").
