Next Car Game Kickstarter

Bugbear Entertainment has launched a Kickstarter for their next car game, which is currently codenamed Next Car Game. This project was announced over a year ago, but they say "many of our fans have asked us for a Kickstarter," though we'll assume they can use the money, and are not just collecting it to humor us. Stretch goals include next generation console editions of the PC game, and they promise a playable sneak peek demo to all backers immediately upon conclusion of the fundraiser. Here's a bit of their pitch:
Next Car Game will be our tenth game, and this time we wanted to work directly with the players instead of working with a publisher. We want to make this game for us and the players, not for the publisher. We strongly believe that it is possible to create the world’s best demolition racing game using crowd-funding, and to do that, we need engage the community and develop the game together with the players. This is something that Kickstarter makes possible: doing the game with the fans gives us a lot more creative freedom, and together we have a chance to create a better game.

Blur is the last original, AAA racing game I can think of and it sold poorly.

The reason Blur sold poorly was because it was rehash of mario kart with realistic cars. There was nothing really new or different to make it stand out.

Split/Second came out the same time, and, like Blur, it was reviewed reasonably well, sold poorly, and resulted in the demise of the studio that created it.

It really deserved to fail because it brought nothing new. Most games rarely live up to their potential. I can see why this game has trouble getting a publisher, the old school derby car/beat-em up makes the game look ugly. I don't really dig old cars and this game is all about old cars.

There was plenty of space for a Mario Kart-esque title on PC, but it failed because they didn't put any effort into porting or supporting it. They wasted too much time and money on advertising to attack Nintendo.

The last really enjoyable arcade racing game for me was Midnight Club: LA.

Blur was crap. The NFS series has been one giant steaming pile after another. Need I mention "The Run"? GRID2 was a joke compared to how much better GRID was.

They can't get publisher support for this game?

It's really not that surprising. How often do publishers put out racing games that aren't based on established franchises? And when they do put them out, how well do they sell? Blur is the last original, AAA racing game I can think of and it sold poorly.

Anyway, I think they should have lowered the minimum pledge required to get the game. $20 is not an impulse pledge and based on the lackluster funding they've received thus far, they definitely need impulse pledges.

Work on the physics of driving, please. For once, I'd like to get a car game where it feels like you're actually driving a CAR, rather than a pivoting floating camera.

I love the games too but I wish they would go a little more far-out with their tracks. They're too conventional and don't allow for enough over the top crashing. They need to play Demo Derby 2's "Chalk Valley" track and copy some of those massive jumps. The track seems realistic yet there is still massive crazy jumps.

I already backed this back on their site, too. I love the FlatOut games.

Already pre-ordered this one the moment it went for sale on their site. I love Destruction Derby and Flatout and since this is Bugbear doing this, it kind of makes sense to support this one if you enjoy DD type games.

This one looks interesting. The upside looks great when they mention games like Street Rod. Doesn't look DRM free, and a long way to go to hit PS4 as a stretch goal.

Waiting and seeing how it goes.
