Battlefield 4 Preloads

Origin announces preloads of Battlefield 4 are being offered for preorder customers in advance of the release of DICE's military sequel, and the site is counting down the seconds to midnight Tuesday when the game launches. They also note the game qualifies for their Great Game Guarantee, which promises refunds beyond their normal return policy. Thanks Mark.

I am very pleased EA figured it out and got the release time set for 12:00 am EDT. Makes the release much more exciting. Preloaded and super excited!

"And while we can't guarantee that you'll never encounter a glitch (hard as we might try), we can guarantee that we'll make it right if something goes wrong …"

How is EA going to make it right within the 24 hour period you're given for refund?

---

"- Complete and submit the Refund Request Form.
- You'll get a response within 48 hours and your refund within 10 days if you meet the refund criteria."

Really? Sounds easier to just reject the payment on credit card, and I would feel some compensation from doing that because it will penalize EA(with the credit card company), for putting me through frustration.

Not a pretty solution. Firstly; you'd have to wait until the debit cleared onto your credit card, and secondly; you'd have to dispute it with your credit card company. While this would probably be within your legal rights, it would be logged against your credit card account and repeat offenses (I.e. repeated disputes) would probably flag you. That information will almost certainly be shared amongst all card providers, so that future disputes you make for any product/service are far more closely scrutinized.

What EA have done is pretty generous really - 24 hours *after* you launch the game or 7 days *after* you bought it (whichever comes first). I can't really fault them for this.

so offering a full no-questions refund in the first 24 hours after you're already playing the game, is a bad thing?

Or they could offer no refunds at all like every other publisher or retailer. Some of you should really stop hating for the sake of hating. It makes you look extremely petty.

While I know there's a whole lot of EA hate out there, what you're saying sounds to me like, "listen, the other guys are crapping on you and they're JUST pissing on you, grow up and take it."

I appreciate the 24 hour period of time, but unless a release was as extreme as Sim City's was so far as badness goes you don't always know within the first 24 hours if you hate something. Many people will get up in the morning, try a round of BF4, then go to work and not be able to play until the next day and thus not get a reliable window in which to form an opinion of the product.

Only because it's a licensed product can they get away with it. Most states have laws concerning return policies that are up there a bit in days, while video games float over that issue nicely by being licensed.

I think if you do that, your whole Origin account gets locked meaning you lose any other Origin games you have. I seem to remember hearing this when people tried to get SimCity refunded.

No, most states do not. In fact, most states do not require you to accept returns at all, and only 9 states have laws saying that you must post your return policies.

i'd love to see how this thread would play out if instead it was Valve who offered a no questions asked 24 hour refund after buying a game from them.... you know, in the name of science.

origin humble bundle giving away numerous "AAA" games for next to nothing, giving all proceeds to charity.... EVIL

simcity launch botched = free "AAA" quality games for everyone... EVIL

Policy revisal giving people a 24 hour grace period to get a full refund after already "unboxing" and playing their digital games, without question... EVIL

when i think of all of that, the first though that usually enters my head is "geez, these guys are really PISSING on me, i should grow up and take it" LOL

i think that "growing up" should really be a theme here...

We reversed credit charges after getting ripped off by EA with SimCity, they left my girlfriends Origin account alone, not that we use it anymore.

The BF4 beta was pretty lackluster, definitely passing on this. The quality of EA titles continues to dip.

The beta was an old build, it always is with DICE. Really shouldn't judge the final game based on it, but go ahead and do so if you like.

If things go horribly bad they can gift people free battlepacks or something.

Until they put out a demo there is nothing else to judge and reviews for MP games are too spotty.

But without a final release quality demo that's all I have to judge the game on. Betas =/= demos however when you release it as a demo and market it as a demo I'll treat it as demo. Hence, I'm in no rush, especially with EA's track record, to pay $60 USD for B4.

So Spot on Redmask.
