Watch Dogs Delayed to Spring 2014

Ubisoft offers a statement "directly from the Watch_Dogs development teams" announcing a delay of the third-person phoner also known as Watch Dogs to Spring 2014 on all platforms. Here's word:
“Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.”

Ubisoft shares down 20% on the news, haha wow. Also Rayman Legends and Splinter Cell Blacklist failed to meet sales expectations. Shame about that, they were both very solid games but I suspect they are going through audience fatigue, you can't iterate on something forever.

I really didn't like the mission hub in Blacklist. It just took you out of the story every time. Plus the urgency of the game is a joke when you have 2 hours until the next Blacklist event, but you can do 5 hours of side missions and the world doesn't end anyway. The missions themselves were pretty fun, but I liked Conviction better.

This strikes me mostly as a "put more content" in, last minute push. I suspect they may have been looking at it and went "Well, the game takes about 30 hours to complete and is 95% polished. We can make it 98% more polished, and add in another 10 hours of content if we move to April. Let's do that." And you know what? That's fine - it's a new IP. Get your new IPs rocksolid and awesome. We'll wait.

Yeah it's a good laugh upfront, but that just means the next time they'll release their games unfinished.

I wasn't mocking them, just sort of amazed that it impacted them that much when they already have AC4 in the pipe for this year.

I wonder what this is going to do to my Amazon pre order bundle of a PS4 and Watch Dogs.

They better still fucking ship the console for launch day.

There's a thread over at K...one guy was told his console would ship when the game ships (yikes!), but two others said amazon was removing the game from their order and dropping the price to the console only price (w/ delivery on the 15th).

I'd urge you to get something in writing.

They wrote back and They upgraded my shipping to overnight on the 15th for the console, for free. I didn't even bitch in the first place... just asked for written confirmation that they were still shipping the console even though the game was delayed. LOL
Get your games from GOG DAMMIT!

For those of you who pre-order the Watch Dogs PlayStation 4 bundle—don’t worry—you will still be getting your Playstation 4 (without Watch Dogs) based on your current delivery estimate. We are adjusting the orders now and will update you once we know more.

Grin....I'm sure everyone is glad they posted that useful tid bit of information, as I thought for sure they would delay shipment of the PS4 until Watch Dogs was ready to ship. Wall

and why would they do that? they have stocks of ps4s, they have orders in hand for them. just ship. it would be monumentally boneheaded of them to just sit on a stack of consoles for six months waiting for a game. and amazon is the least boneheaded of any major corp that i can think of.

I was being sarcastic....... Wall

Hopefully they’ll use that extra time to add a key toggle for 1st person/3rd person - ala Fallout 3 - and I’ll be all over this. I’m no programmer, but I wouldn’t think that would be too difficult to implement, would it?

Cancel your pre-order for the console. :-shrug-:

Yeah, but if it's anything like the Wii craze you are rolling the dice on getting one in time to play any launch games. inFAMOUS Second Son is still suppsoed to be launch window release.

Yeah I'm all but certain I'm going to wait on buying a PS4 because everything I want to play on it I can play on the PC...and it's better on the PC. And Star Citizen.
