Out of the Blue

A New York sports columnist (I think it may have been Steve Serby) used to write a weekly column during football season called "Mr. Loser Laments," that was filled with tales of woe of all the football bets he lost over the weekend due to improbable circumstances. I used to think this was just picking weird upsets after the fact to create a fiction of having bet on the loser, but after the late lead changes turning so many of my winners to losers lately, I'm starting to see the plausibility of it all. Watching the Jets beat the Falcons in Atlanta with the two-minute drill is just the latest, but it really brought home that this is really one of those seasons where I can do no right. Just call me Mr. Loser.

I agree week 5 was tough (8-6) and yet I still stand alone atop the heap and breathe the heady air of first place. Sure, I know it can't last, but for now it's the giggles. Crown

i wouldn't be so hard on freeman. he's proven he can be a good qb in the past, and combined with the toxic environment of TB, it's really murky as to the reason for his decline. the only thing for certain is that schiano's proven to be a complete douchebag and if i were freeman i'm happy as hell i got outta there. i think he has a good chance of proving he's better than the disaster that is tampa's offense.

I agree, also just think that it could be WAY WAY WAYYYYy worse then Freeman!

Pfft. Not enough to my liking, his paltry single TD left me with a fantasy loss. All I needed out of him was 2 TDs and I didn't get it.

Last week was brutal for the picks, thankfully next week seems like it'll settle down a bit. The only tough choices I see - Saints vs Patriots and Packers vs Ravens are pretty much flip a coin.

I was 6-8. It was brutal. The 6 that I won were all by like 3 points or less, so I was pretty close to the 0-14 it felt like.

Saints - Pats looks pretty much a gimme to me. The Pats are terribly overrated, and were undefeated only because they played gimp teams. I imagine Brees will murder them. Packers / ravens, yeah, I can't get any kind of feel for the Ravens this season.

Ravens are almost like the Bengals, where they lose when you expect them to win and they win when they should lose. Flaco seems to range from bad to awesome between and within games.

This coming week is much harder to pick than last week IMO.

The Saints v Patriots game is a tough one in particular. The Pats don't lose twice in a row very often, the Saints aren't as good outdoors on the road as the are indoors or at home. That being said, nobody would argue that "today" the most consistently great teams in the league have been the Broncos in the AFC and Saints in the NFC. Still, my gut says the Pats use home field advantage to give the Saints their first loss.

I don't think the Packers v Ravens game will be all that close. Despite the loss of 50% of their pass rush, Rodgers is starting to hit his stride and the Packers live and die with Rodgers and his O-Line not the defense. It will be a high scoring game, the score might even look close at the end, but the Packers will never be behind.

I think the only winless team to get their first win this weekend will be the Steelers.

Yeah, I finished 7-7 for the week and as I indicated in another topic I changed three picks at the last minute Sunday morning that would have been wins if I hadn't changed them. *sigh*

Spock would be going nuts right now because all the logical picks are going out the window. I wonder if this is a portent that the end of days is nigh?

Well if it is I don't care because I'm off to the Scandinavian spa for a good schvitz today and tomorrow! Oi vey!

I dont see Saints vs Patriots as a coin flip at all. Saints by 14 easily

I think the Saints have a much more aggressive defense which is bad for Brady. Brees is having a great season and his line is pretty solid. That said, the Patriots are still a pretty strong team overall and I think they'll be out for blood after the Bengals embarrassment.
