Battlefield Bad Company 2 Offline?

The listing of topics on EA's Battlefield Bad Company 2 Answer HQ is dominated by a single topic, which is players' inability to login or retrieve their soldiers from EA's game servers. Posts on the EA forums and German site theorigin.de state that some players have been told the game is being taken down to free up resources for the upcoming release of Battlefield 4, but as far as we know, no such move has been officially announced. We have contacted EA for a clarification on this, and will follow-up if we receive one.

This login issue for Dragon Age Origins should now be resolved.

It was perfect timing. I decided to fire up Dragon Age Origins since I never beat it and start a new game. But then I couldn't get sign in and get all the DLC. It took some digging at first to find the few message board posts stating there is an issue.

They are just using cod strategy, kill the old one and force them to buy the new one. They can fuck right off, no map editor no buy! I'm sick and tired of playing on shitty maps with the same old sandbox style that has no imagination!

I cannot comment on Battlefield, but this login problem is also affecting Dragon Age Origins.

We are working with EA on a solution and hope to have more information, if not a solution, within the next day or so.

Sorry for the hassle.

That's the price of paying for a game without LAN support or public server files. You're at the mercy of EA. Good luck with that.

Dude, times change.

Yeah, and there are still other companies that not only allow but encourage personal servers, mods, and custom maps. EA and Actiblizz are not among them so if you give them you're money you fully deserve to get F'd in the A. Effed...in the A.

So no, dedi server wouldn't help here, but it'd be nice to have for other situations and reasons....

Yep, I'm aware of the master server issue but I also remember the past when I could directly connect to servers or use clients like Hamachi in some games to get around these problems. Ah for simpler days again.

True enough... I still remember how much I hated valve when they switched from WON to their stupid steam client. It made lan parties a MAJOR hassle. Back then with BNC cables and before the age of always on internet...

Indeed, outages like this make the case for publicly available dedicated binary releases.

Which wouldn't do much in this situation as ranked matches would still require the master-auth server to be up besides your dedicated server. If auth server is down, nobody could play. Assuming the game/server enforces valid keys and accounts (to prevent pirates from playing online).

So no, dedi server wouldn't help here, but it'd be nice to have for other situations and reasons....

I think there are older Battlefield titles than this that are still online so it's probably just a glitch. EA always announces when stuff's going away and I think on their boxes, it says they have to provide 60 days notice.

This is sooo not cool. I absolutely love this game and still have it installed as I gravitate to this excellent game every now and then. The last time I checked, there were both vanilla and Vietnam servers available to play. Aside from the 32ppl only servers, I think it's better than BF3 and the single player campaign was great. This is another reason for me to just boycott EA altogether.

I wouldn't worry yet to be honest. I couldn't log into Battlelog for Warfighter all day yesterday either. I also couldn't log into either of the Play4Free Battlefield games. I don't think they are shutting them ALL down. My guess is a DNS issue or something else technical.

Barely three years old, I hope this is untrue as that's just shitty. The last time I played BC2 there were plenty of servers with people.
