This is a payoff to textbook companies to kill the used textbook market. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool.

Maybe they are just trying to save money and to attract students? Paper books don't need a conspiracy to be killed off they would need a conspiracy to stay in use.

e-books take longer to sift through pages, and there's something about reading paper under sunlight that I think is better for the eyes than staring at backlit screens for many hours.

I used to feel the same way about mobile readers until I tried an e-ink display, they don't use backlights at all.

They're still going to get screwed on the ebooks.

Not really, tuition textbooks are significantly more expensive than their ebook counterparts. This is also becoming true for general books as well.

Their choice of ereader is puzzling though, backlit screens are hard on the eyes.

They're still going to get screwed on the ebooks. Hell, they pay 32k a year in tuition. That's just stupid.

Not to mention the amount of paper and weight saved by having those books available digitally instead of in printed form.
I know some people still prefer paper over digital, but I think it is a step in the right direction to move to digital media.

Seems ok. Half the kids in college bring laptops to class now anyhow and printed textbooks are an outrageous rip-off.
