Everybody's Gone To The Rapture PS4

Rock, Paper, Shotgun has word that Everybody's Gone To The Rapture will be a PS4 exclusive, so any plans for a PC edition of the next game from the team behind Dear Esther are now on long-term hold at best. "Dear Esther fans were very much in our thoughts, but enough of us are multi-platform gamers to make this work for us," explains Dan Pinchbeck of developer thechineseroom. "And we’re in this for the long game, so I can’t see us not returning to PC, or doing whatever we can to keep that fan base as we owe them a great deal. But part of that is following our instincts about how we develop and find stability as a studio and this is going to be part of the process. And without sounding like a bought man, the PS4 is genuinely a really, really cool platform, and if people have never bought into console gaming before, this is the time."

Indies are starting to become sell outs too!

Are indies supposed to stay small and "indie" for you? If they are "discovered" and become more successful, they are a sellout?

As a PC gamer, I'm still pissed about the whole Bungie/Microsoft thing, but that's because Halo was ruined as a PC game by the move. Indies signing exclusivity deals only irks me if it ruins or eliminates a promising PC version of a game, and even then... not really. It's not like they are taking food off my table. Lots of indies out there with cool games who don't want a lot of my money to play them.

I still like Green Day, too.

Shadorun is not a Steam exclusive it's a PC game. DUH... Of course its not on console.

Duh, it's exclusive to Steam for anyone not in the Kickstarter. Which means if you want Shadowrun, you have to take Steam on your PC. Which means it's exclusive to Steam as per the link below.

Exactly.

What? Since when did Bungie make indie games? Anyway, take a look at how many XBLA and PSN games made their way to PC. Now take a look at how many PS4 indie games are already out or coming out for PC. I don't foresee the trend changing.

Plese tell me which PS4 game exclusive is coming out for the PC? And how is XBLA and PSN in any way relevant with regards to PS4 exclusives?

Well neither is Dear Esther, not anymore. Not after signing an exclusive deal with Sony. Remember Bungie and their exclusive deals with You Know Who?

Not really the same thing, if something is only on the PC you can bet it's probably not because someone PAID the developer to ignore other platforms. I do agree however that the exclusives game is one game I have no interest in playing.

I don't give a shit WHY a game is only developed for the PC. Call it PC exclusive, or a limited release due to limited resources/budget/etc... whatever. Semantics.

What I care about is a game that is developed for the PC and NOT consoles. A game that isn't compromised in gameplay, interface, or controls because of console and gamepad considerations. If someone wants to miss out on a possibly great PC game because a DIFFERENT game they're also developing is a console exclusive... their loss. A simple "forest for the trees" hissy fit, imo. I'll support the developer and the platform by giving them my money for good PC games, and not giving them my money for crappy console ports.

PS - I can't think of a single console-exclusive release that was worth a plate of cold piss once it was eventually released on the PC.

Indie developers usually don't release on multiple platforms at the same time anyways. Also Sony seems to have many indie games with launch-first-on-Sony exclusives that leave a future for other platforms wide open.

Wow, so you're spite the dev's MULTIPLATFORM game b/c they're doing one exclusive? Given that it only takes one failed game to destroy a small developer, I can't blame them too much for getting a little security.

Exactly. What I was getting (from what he was saying) is basically that it will be coming to PC, but Sony paid them a shit load of money for a timed exclusive. That shit-load of money by the way is especially enticing to an indie company just starting out, to help them keep food on the table and pay their employees so they dont have to starve and work in their basements.

Which I get. I mean a timed exclusive is better than an outright exclusive - where it will never come to PC (like Red Dead Redemption!) - especially in the case of indie just starting out. It sucks, but I understand it.

Rockstar and other established AAA developers doing exclusives on the otherhand? Complete and utter disrespect.

No great loss. I could care less about exclusives. It's good for the devs - to a point. Guaranteed money is nice but it can also be hugely limiting. Look at the The Last of Us, it probably could have sold a bazillion more copies if it was multi-platform. No shame in taking the money and run, just be honest about it.

Huh? Isn't "A Machine For Pigs" a PC exclusive? Oh, that's right... you don't want to support "the exclusive model bullshit". Very honorable of you to support that sentiment even when it's for your chosen platform.
