Yeah that's called a picture that doesn't have proper perspective or ratio, its not holding one in your hands. They are further apart in the new design and perfectly fine to hold. I'm not getting excited, I'm just pointing out that they did improve the design. You can't know if they're comfortable before holding one in your hands. Also I have pretty big hands but if people are bumping thumbs holding either controller then they're holding it wrong.

I loved the 360 controller but the PS4 controller is a massive improvement that finally brings them up to par. Now if Sony can finally get some signed drivers into Windows then I'll be quite happy.

This makes no sense, your hands don't naturally rest anywhere with a controller, it's all about how the handholds are designed. There's actually more precedent for symmetrical analog sticks (arcades, PS1+, etc) than not. The focus isn't on anything in particular, that's like saying the touchpad is the focus because its in the middle top of the pad. Get your hands on a controller and we'll see, yes I have by the way and this is coming from someone who preferred the 360 controller previously. It is night and day difference between the DS3 and DS4.

Besides he was saying they're the same and I pointed out how they not in several ways. If you guys don't want to have an open mind before even holding either one well whatever, it's your money.

Still looks almost exactly the same to me:
ps3 controller
ps4 controller

The analog sticks are still parallel to each other, not offset at all. I'm sorry that the controller isn't comfortable to me (just got done playing Last of Us again for only about 30 minutes because the controller sux) but wow, don't get overly excited just because in my opinion the 360/xbone controller is better for me.

Yes it does make sense, I don't buy your 'natural thumb position' nonsense and if precedent didn't matter then you shouldn't be commenting based on past iterations of both controllers. My thumbs naturally rest just fine on either controller, you are just trying to make your preference seem objectively superior when it is just a simple brand preference. I doubt you have even used either controller anyway, I have used both next gen controllers in person and can attest to their comfort levels being very even. Make up your own mind when you actually get your hands on them.

All I'm saying is that it is stupid to buy something sight unseen based on an old console and a picture of a controller. The Dual Shock 4 feels very natural to hold and has comfort parity with the Xbox One controller.

It's not a question of an open mind. Again, stick your hands out in front of you, horizontal. Put them how they're comfortable, meaning your fingers aren't straight. Now rotate them thumbs-up. Your thumbs will probably be pointing at the middle segment of your index finger. That's where the dpad is on the PS3 but the stick is on the Xbox. That's also where you have the widest range of motion and the least joint/muscle fatigue. On the PS3, and the right side of the 360, your thumb naturally hangs over the buttons. You have to move it from its natural resting place to the analog stick.

This is ergonomically inferior. And non-sensical. Yes, there's precedent for it, but that doesn't make it right. The function you use the most should be where your thumb naturally rests.

It looks as if the ps4 has the same general design and if that's so, no way in hell I'll be getting one of those until they're dirt cheap.

What? No, it doesn't, I don't know how you got that impression. The space between the analog thumbsticks is increased to give it a better proportion, it has vastly improved triggers and shoulder buttons, curved handholds and its weight to size ratio is much better. It is not an iteration on the Dual Shock 3 outside of some shared ancestry in terms of buttons present.

Go look at a side by side with the DS3 and DS4. It's obvious they took into account all of the criticisms from pro-360 controller people and sought to rectify those. I suspect you will be very pleased with the PS4 controller overall coming from a 360 controller. The Xbone controller is the one that concerns me a bit, it just looks weird in pictures.

The analog sticks are still both not where thumbs naturally rest.

This times 1000! The analog sticks are way more comfortable in the positions they're at on the 360 / xbone controller than they are on the ps3 / ps4 controller. Again, my opinion.

Seriously, turn your hands sideways, so the thumbs face up. At natural resting they are where the dpad and buttons are, not where the sticks are. To me, that's a failure. The Xbox at least has one stick there, the one you use most often.

Ah, so it does have an on/off switch.

Is it just me, or is that controller hideous?

Say what you will about the console but the controller is one area that Microsoft totally trounces Sony (in my opinion of course). I have both the ps3 and the 360 plus a 360 controller on my PC. I personally can't stand the ps3 controller. It's rough trying to play through Last of Us just because of the damn controller. It looks as if the ps4 has the same general design and if that's so, no way in hell I'll be getting one of those until they're dirt cheap. At least from the looks of it (ergonomically) the xbone controller is the same as the 360. Guess if I decide to go next gen it will have to be the xbone.

If I'm MS, I go to Rockstar right now and put down a billion dollars for GTA5 exclusive to Xbone 180, then make it a launch title.

That might save them.

Microsoft is too cheap to do that these days, they just send Activision a much smaller check to get a 30 day headstart on DLC and call it a day.

That "unboxing" video just felt sleazy and weird. They certainly aren't doing themselves any favors with the press who normally get millions of hits from this kind of thing.
