Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Demo

Steam's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition page now includes a playable demo from the upcoming PC edition of this action/adventure sequel (thanks Frans). We don't have any details on the demo, so here's word on the game itself, which is being offered at a 10% preorder discount:
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition is the complete edition of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, a dark and vivid new re-imagining of the Castlevania mythology. It is the end of days and ungodly powers isolate the Earth. The world's alliance with the heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force - the mysterious Lords of Shadow. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil wreak chaos and death upon the living.

Gabriel Belmont is a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by the evil forces of darkness and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead she realizes the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny and hopefully salvation for the world.

you've got to be referring to the graphics, because the controls for this game are utter shit. This game didn't last but 5 mins on my pc until I removed it.

This game screams console port, and demands a controller to even play it.

A shame too, Patrick Stewarts narrating was kewl. but game play wise what a piece of shit.
its a beat em up - your ass must be crazy if you aren't using a controller

Agreed. But then I'd go further and say you must be crazy to play a console game on a PC and use a controller too. Unless you don't have a console, of course, and you really wanna play the game in question.

Finished the demo. It's pretty terrible. Graphics are good but the button mashing (I had to use a 360 pad because this game's controls are not going to work with a mouse and keyboard unless you have a lot more mouse buttons than me). The invisible walls the same cookie cutter gameplay as Devil May Cry and God of War is just more of the same. The biggest bright spot is that Patrick Stewart does voice overs for the story segments. Also this game is chalk full of Christian mythology more so than any Castlevania game to date that I have seen. In fact I would say it's not very Castlevania at all.

Well yeah, if your developers are just going to abandon the core design of the series and release a generic action game instead...

Played the demo. Just horrible. Graphics are alright -- with some proper detail for a change, unlike Darksiders! -- but the rest is horrible.

His weapon makes no fucking sense: a crusefix the size of his lower arm, yet it releases a chain spike so long that could lodge onto the fucking moon. Other than that this game is simply too much a console game. I don't fault the game for it, of course, because it IS, but it's just a reminder that I really don't like that stuff. You see the target group of the devs all over it: 12-15 year old boys who want to play pretend being the castlevania protagonist on the playground -- the way the guy walks tough, etc. And then those fucking cutscenes during and after almost Every. Fucking. Kill! So horrid. Gotta desuade my wife into buying a PS3 ater this reminder.

There really are some great games on the PS3. Don't let crap like this scare you away.

Sorry bro, but I did not buy a pc to play games with a controller. I personally despise developers porting out games that require controller to even play their games.

I can usually play a game if it’s got good controls, but the controls in this game and terrible. You can’t strafe at the same time as walking forward. You can’t do both at the same time on one. And the camera is annoying as hell too.

As far as I got in LoS, the entire game consisted of: Get locked into tiny arena with an uncontrollable camera that only points in one direction. Fight a bunch of guys that take a million hits to kill. ... Fight the same bunch of guys that take a million hits to kill. ... Fight the same bunch of guys that take a million hits to kill. ... Get shunted off to the next tiny arena to fight a bunch of guys, potentially with a minigame interlude.

Unfortunately true. I got the collector's edition for PS3 and man, it's just a boring, boring, boring action game. The plot is tedious. The environments are tedious. The combat is tedious. The only thing worth mentioning is the OST.

Agreed, just a boring game without any soul.

Anyhow, great game if you like the God of War style. Atmosphere and soundtrack are awesome.

I don't have a review to point to--but I really didn't like this game at all, and I rather liked what I played of GoW (minus the QTEs). As far as I got in LoS, the entire game consisted of: Get locked into tiny arena with an uncontrollable camera that only points in one direction. You can rebind your keys. The default key bindings are terrible. They use J for attack. There is no preset for mouse.
