Europa Universalis IV Preorders Get Crusader Kings II & Save Converter

Paradox Interactive announces two preorder bonuses for Europa Universalis IV, their upcoming strategy sequel. Those who buy the game in advance will get a prior game to play in the meantime, though those quick to guess this will be Europa Universalis III would be wrong, as they are actually offering Crusader Kings II. This relates to the other bonus, a Save Converter utility for Europa Universalis IV to allow players to continue their progress from Crusader Kings II. This sounds like the type of thing they'd want to release for all Crusader Kings II owners, but for now this is a preorder incentive. Here are some details:
Players who pre-order Europa Universalis IV will be given a free copy of critically acclaimed strategy/RPG Crusader Kings II, Paradox’s hit title of diplomacy, dynasties, and double-dealing set in the Middle Ages, to add to their own library or to give to a friend.

Early adopters will also receive a new Saved Game Converter for Crusader Kings II, which will read the details of a saved game from a Crusader Kings II and convert that into a game that can be played in Europa Universalis IV. Fans of Crusader Kings II will be able to maintain the empires they have established and guide them through the age of exploration in an all-new strategic experience, continuing their personal stories of expansion and conquest.

Both the saved converter and copy of Crusader Kings II will be available as pre-order bonuses on August 1, and players that have already pre-purchased Europa Universalis IV will receive these additional bonuses. Strategy fans can prepare for the long road to conquest by pre-ordering Europa Universalis IV, details on all pre-order bonuses can be found here: www.europauniversalis4.com/buy

To demonstrate how converted saved games will work in Europa Universalis IV, Paradox will be showing off the converter in a live stream on Twitch.tv. Eager conquerors can tune in on July 30 at 11 a.m. PDT (6 p.m. GMT, 7 p.m. BST, 8 p.m CEST). The stream will be live at http://twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive.

I'm a huge Paradox fan, but this sounds dorky really. Is anyone excited by this? I would have much rather just had a head start on the truckload of DLC they are sure to release.

... WHAT?

Have you not ever perused the AAR section of the forums? The "Crusader Kings through Hearts of Iron" single game is a feat dreamed of by many and achieved by oh-so-few...

In fact, you're the first one who claims to be a Paradox fan that doesn't have a nerd swoon (trying to keep it clean) about this.

Are you sure you're not referring to Paradox as a publisher as opposed to a developer?

I guess I'll have to hand in my geek card at the door then, as I'm just not feeling it on this one. Love the AARs (I am a board wargamer as well.), but I've never had any desire to link the games. Maybe it will be fun so I will keep an open mind.

The developer for sure, as the publisher sometimes publishes some stinkers.

This actually has me interested in picking up EUIV... I've enjoyed CK2 (though never made it to the final years) and been thinking about doing a new playthrough with the newest expansion since it just went on sale.

I've wondered sometimes about the 300-400 year cap that they put on their games, but if this save converter becomes a trend for their games I might end up picking up the full line as it refreshes...

I still need to work out in CK2 though, how to as a smaller country avoid getting absolutely crushed once the few mercenary armies disappear (since they never refresh). That and I wasn't real good at the making friends and gaining land through marriage and family aspect.

Sure. A really good converter and integration into EUIV could be pure gold. I doubt that it'll be that great though.

Are there people who don't already have Crusader Kings 2? It's on sale every other week.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?
