Vendetta Online Patched; Adds Oculus Rift Support

Guild Software announces support for Oculus Rift VR headsets in Vendetta Online, their science-fiction MMORPG, currently restricted to the Windows edition. "We're thrilled to help our players experience the next level of immersion in a virtual world," said John Bergman, founder and creative director of Guild Software. "For the moment, support is limited to the Windows version of our game, but we intend to expand this to other platforms with device compatibility." This coincides with the release of a new version 1.8.256-258 update for the game, which adds new high-resolution textures and backgrounds along with changes, tweaks, and fixes.

Admittedly the last time I played VO was three years ago. Realizing this, I downloaded the client and created a trial account last night. Gave it about two hours of playtime.

Things that are better:
* Definitely better models/general graphics
* There is a lot more NPC activity than I remember
* Yay! A thorough tutorial now!

Things that appear to have remained the same:
* Almost all missions are of the standard, generic MMO type.
* Lack of players
* I'm not seeing any sort of story arc that makes me want to invest in the character yet. The three factions, outside of the description text, don't seem to have anything that makes them unique from one another outside of models and colors.

When was the last time you played? In the last six to twelve months they've put in a lot of new stuff like conquerable stations, more sectors, new ships, mobile (Droid) and Linux versions, and major graphics overhauls to certain parts (not to mention major AI/NPC and player ship performance/weapon tweaks). Granted, it's not as 'lively' as Eve, mostly because many gamers don't know about it. I'm hoping that this news spot will help bring new blood in and bolster the numbers some. Once you get into it, it feels a lot like the 'X' series in many ways...

If it's been a while since you were last in, give it another try...

Tried playing VO and it was just so...sterile to me. The models were bland, the missions were bland and the universe seemed well...sterile. Not a lot of PC traffic.

Two for two, Blue, as this is another game I follow closely (it's not one of the more 'well-known' space-combat MMO's, so many gamers don't know about it, but should!). This was announced a while ago in their email newsletter, but obviously hadn't been actually put into service until now. If anyone here is interested in a space combat MMO that doesn't require a college degree to get started (I'm looking right at you, EVE) or a serious time sink, then Vendetta is right up your alley! Seriously, we could use some more fresh meat and the game is awesome. Surely worthy of your time until Star Citizen comes along, at least... Thumbsup
