I'm not sure where this 'thousands' of dollars of value is coming from, it's either from 'prestige' of being the only person stupid enough to buy an Xbone...or from the free prostate exams every 24 hours.

Exactly, where exactly is this value coming from? Everything about it says I have to pay, pay, pay and keep on paying non-stop. In fact in increases my living costs with absolutely no upside to me and several downsides. So yeah, I'd love to see this PR bullshit speak spelled out specifically in black and white.

I kind of get what he's saying, with 2 caveats:
1) The PS4 offers at least as much value, from a gaming perspective
2) The rest of the value is kind of like a swiss army knife with a diamond cutter, fish gutter, blender, etc. Yeah, it technically offers a lot of "value," but given that I'll never cut a diamond and never gut a fish, I'm better off with a cheaper swiss army knife that does what I need and doesn't charge me for stuff I don't regardless of how cheaply it added that stuff

Most people buying this want a gaming machine first. Yeah, I know, the 360 gets more use in Netflix than gaming. But the reason people use it for Netflix over a Roku is the gaming... that's what people take into consideration for their buying purposes.

Really Xbone game pricing should be higher since it will be such a niche console compared to the PS4. Wonder if EA will stop supporting the Xbone when it bombs.

My mom bought my kids their Nintendo Wii, and I was surprised that she even knew what one was. The key was that it was only $200. People saying that it's all about the casual market are right. The question is, however, whether $500 is something the casual market is going to be willing to pay. I'd say by and large no. My mom did not buy my daughter the Wii U because it was too expensive.

Microsoft's Xbox One games will be $60.

Was this ever in doubt? Geez if they thought about doing $70 that would have been the only way this thing could get worse.

MS has said that their DRM will allow for lower priced games.

MS is also saying that they will require a publisher for all games, including self-funded indie games. Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty is coming to every platform EXCEPT the Xbox One because the game is being produced by Oddworld Inhabitants without a publisher.

There has been no clarification on standard price for third party games. They could still announce it at $69.99.
Oh, OK. I was misinterpreting the article title. "Microsoft's XBox One Games" means games from Microsoft, not games for Microsoft's XBox One.

Wait, so you guys really think Activision will say "welp, every other XBONE game is $60, but ours are special, so they're $80."

What the hell do you think stopped them from doing that in the past that will make them do it now?

And why the hell do you think that PS4 games wouldn't follow an identical scheme?

edit:While none of these polls are perfect, the fact that they're almost identical should be extremely worrisome for MS. Either everyone that's voting is bluffing, or we're looking at one of the biggest blowouts in gaming history this fall.

If you walk into a Best Buy most of the AAA console games are sitting at $40 now if they've been out for more than a couple months. Seems like there's a pricing depression going on to move units even if the starting point is higher. This trend suggests that no one thinks increasing the base price is good for business right now.

I think that's more because few people are buying games for the old consoles anymore, as most people are waiting for the new ones. The same thing happened right before the PS3 and 360 came out.

People are blowing the Xbone anti-consumer stuff way out of proportion. For example the mandatory prostate exam via wand attachment is only once a month, not weekly. Damn fanboys.

Don Mattrick is such a shameless piece of shit.

We're over-delivering value against other choices I think consumers can get. Any modern product these days you look at it [and] $499 isn't a ridiculous price point. We're delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think they're going to love it when they use it."

Haha seriously? Xbox and Xbox Live are the worst value propositions going right now. PS+ gave me like $300 of PS3 games in 8 months. Xbox Live Gold has just hoovered money like nobodys business and given shit all in value. Maybe back in 2006 online multiplayer was an impressive feature for consoles but yeah, gonna need to do better than that and some apps people can get for free anywhere else.

What other $500 living room devices do people get that the Xbox is going to beat in value? My last fucking receiver didn't cost that much.

You can't really assume anything with MS because everything they've announced becomes different on closer inspection. MS came out assuming no one would care about the details.

MS Xbox One Mission Statement: "Everyone loves xbox so we know it's going to sell, so what do we want to have in it?"

MS PR folks are awe struck at the questions coming from gamers and the press.

"Why the 24 hour limits, why so restrictive?"
I...don't you want to know where you can pre-order? I have this list right here, ask me about that.

"Why Region Locked"
...we're selling it overseas, isn't that great! You can buy it there too!

"We can't resell our games?"
Cloud, you see you get the cloud now, so pre-order! XBOX!

Behind the scenes: You said they'd love us!!! You said this would be a cake walk!? It's the fucking bay of pigs out here! We're getting slaughtered!!

I had assumed they would be using the new generation as an excuse to raise the standard sticker price re: inflation, like they had done almost a decade ago with 360 and PS3. I wouldn't be surprised to hear they planned to do so, but figured at the last minute that they shouldn't be pushing their luck any harder right now, lol.
