Volition Blessing Saints Row Mod Support

An excited post on idolninja.com outlines plans for Volition to release details for Saints Row: The Third that will allow the creation of mod tools for the open-world action sequel (thanks nin). This will also include information for Saints Row 2, but more significantly, is said to ne a "test run" for similar support for the upcoming Saints Row IV. The post has details on how this all came to pass, and here's an excerpt describing exactly what it means:
Jeff Thompson, the Studio Director of Programming at Volition, is putting together a package for us containing documentation, file formats, tools, and more on the Saints Row: The Third engine. Myself, Minimaul, and gibbed will be working closely with Jeff over the coming months to use this information to create a robust set of modding tools to supplement our existing ones and creating what is essentially a full sdk for the game! But, that’s not all! Saints Row: The Third is only the beginning! Jeff has confirmed that he will also be digging up all the Saints Row 2 info that he can so we can do the same for it as well, and that this undertaking is actually a “test run” for Saints Row IV.

So, what does this actually mean to the average Saints Row player? In simple terms, the modding community will finally be able to create and offer new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new npcs, new missions, and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never even dared to dream of.

It would really kick ass if they could expand it to 4 player Coop, but not sure that's possible without exe editing.

From the description of some of the co-op missions or modes or whatever you want to call them, it doesn't sound like some of them would even work/make sense with more than 2 people. I really wanted more because I know at least 5 or 6 people on my Steam list who will be begging me to play SR4 co-op with them.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

My prediction is that the first two mods will be:

1) co-op for more players at once.
2) physically modeled dicks on the male characters, complete with FloppyPhysics.

Incorrect. The first mods will be incredibly detailed nude skins for every female in the game.

Pssh. There were nude mods for this game within the first week it came out. I wouldn't be surprised if people build ridiculously high detail models to replace the so-so ones the game uses, tho.

I'm hoping "mods are good!" is Deep Silver's doing, and standard practice going forward. It may also be to garner goodwill toward their brand right now, when the current consoles have an expiration date. Also, It may push people to buy SR4 sooner rather than Steam-sale later.

Well, DeepSilver publish the X games and those have a ridiculously big modding scene. It's incredible what some people created for this game.
Now we donce.

Finding the negative in something uniformly positive? Blue out of ten!

And they didn't do this years ago, why? How is making a salient observation negative. Valve's never had problems doing this stuff from the get-go. Same with other companies. Hell, most of the KS' stuff we're seeing today are coming with editors and mod support from the get-go. I said it was a positive, just a little late in the game for it. Yet, you make it out to be a negative. That's your impression of it, so it says a lot more about you than me.

Chill out, Cutter. I'm just fucking with you. You're way too defensive dude, you should try some video games to blow off some steam.

What's he gonna play? He hates everything. I bet that motherfucker even goes on NMA and talks about how fucking terrible the first Fallout games were.

But seriously, Aug 20 can't get here quickly enough.

SR4 looks fun but maybe not $50 fun. Based on what's been shown so far, it looks like they are recycling a considerable amount of content from SR3. The game even re-uses Steelport and just makes slight alterations to different areas.

Will wait for reviews.

SR2 was much better than SR1 and completely reused... crap what was the name?
I mean, exact same map. A few new skyscrapers, that was about it.

Stillwater. And yeah a lot of people didn't play SR1, so they forget. No one called SR2 an expansion pack to SR1. Yet no matter how many new features and content they throw at us, SR4 is an expansion pack unworthy of actual retail price because it uses the same city as SR3.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Yeah, it is recycled. Remember the "Enter the Dominatrix" expansion pack? They had so much new stuff they wanted to put in it, they decided it to just call it a new game. And that's fine by me.

What does mod support have to do with pretty graphics..? Bethesda's games get tons of mods, many of which improve otherwise lackluster graphics. Same with GTA4.

I'm glad that Volition is officially supporting mods. It will only make their games better.
