Patton Oswald discusses rape jokes and why people can't deny rape culture exists.
First off: no one is trying to make rape, as a subject, off-limits. No one is talking about censorship. In this past week of re-reading the blogs, going through the comment threads, and re-scrolling the Twitter arguments, I haven’t once found a single statement, feminist or otherwise, saying that rape shouldn’t be joked under any circumstance, regardless of context. Not one example of this.

Who makes these rules exactly? Sounds like BS to me.
There is a rowdy group of female climbers at the indoor climbing gym I go to in the winter and they do shit like that all the time. Amazingly us guys do not burst into tears or start lecturing them about being polite.

If you don't know what is culturally acceptable or not, I can't help you. Sure some people are ok with it, but far more are not.

Wolf whistling was always sexist, be it men or women doing it. It is inappropriate in public nowadays, especially when you whistle at strangers or work related people. And it is far more inappropriate on a public stage like the E3.

Whoa, wow...so wolf whistling is now sexist and the result of bad parenting? Wow.
Does this also apply as being rude and inappropriate if a guy does it to another guy?

This has nothing to do with government, stop trying to derail everything with your idiotic liberal rants. As if people being over sensitive was somehow limited to liberals, bloody moron.
He is a self-admitted troll (See Speharo's or nin's sig) but it seems that people are learning not to fall for his bait. The thing is that I occassionally agree with him on some basic level about some things, but trying to hamfistedly shoehorn his political rants into every topic is obnoxious and aggravating.

[snip] But what kind of fucked up parenting brings someone up doing the wolf whistle on a MICROSOFT PR EVENT (it's bad enough there are still cretins around doing it in public in bars and clubs (Although I have seen clubs that threw people out for doing it))
Whoa, wow...so wolf whistling is now sexist and the result of bad parenting? Wow.
Also, you can get ejected from a club for wolf whistling? Really? So using non-verbal gestures to indicate that someone is worth whistling to is now misogynistic and sexist?
Oh boy. Does this also apply as being rude and inappropriate if a guy does it to another guy?
Wait, you don't think wolf whistling is sexist?
Who cares what it is when a guy does it to another guy. This isn't about guys. Men need to stop going "but what if it's done to a guy!" It's bad to punch a guy sitting in the cube next to you, but ok to punch him in a ring? What gives?!
Ask women if they like being catcalled when they're walking to work.
To both points, we have more than a handful of guys here that would be quite upset if a group of gay men wolf whistled them as they were walking through the supermarket.

I have to say that I disagree in the strongest way possible with your insinuation that being "politically correct" and "polite" are the same thing, because they aren't.

It's nice to see that a couple of people have some perspective and aren't being run by their emotions. Talk about absolutely asinine comparisons or hypotheticals - this thread takes the cake.
"I have a grandmother that died so no one can ever make a joke about old people again!! Waaah!" Give me a goddammed break.
No. Kidding. People want to talk about rape jokes? This thread is a god damn mental rape. I feel violated having even participated in it.
Haha! Good one. Uh-oh - I just laughed at your rape joke. I must be the scum of the earth.
I think hypersensitivity should be listed as a medical disorder. Doctors could treat it by mandatory daily doses of Louis C.K.![]()
