That's a very old prototype of the first rift in that pic. The current dev kit has the cable coming out the back and it's not in the way at all. It looks nothing like in that pic. The current 1080p kit they are testing has the cables out the side. They sent out an update to us kickstarter backers of what it looks like currently.
The consumer rift is not even close to final.
