Mad Max Game Announced

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment finally announces Mad Max, officially acknowledging that Avalanche Studios is developing a new open-world, third-person action game that will put players in the leather pants and other comfy desert-wear of Mad Max, avenger of the scarred roadways and enemy to all in shoulder pads. It was reported this game would be announced at E3 2012 but something prevented that, but recent domain registrations offered indications the project was gearing up, and true to that, its release is expected next year for Windows and consoles, both next- and last-generation. The Mad Max website is online offering an announce trailer showing some Max-style mercy, and here's word:
Burbank, Calif. – June 10, 2013 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Mad Max™, a new open world, third-person action game where players become Mad Max, a lone warrior in a savage post-apocalyptic world where cars are the key to survival. The game will debut for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One® the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Xbox 360® games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows® PC.

Scheduled for release in 2014, Mad Max will deliver dynamic, open-world gameplay where gamers fight to stay alive in The Wasteland, using brutal on-ground and vehicular combat against vicious gangs of bandits. Players are challenged with treacherous missions as they scavenge the dangerous landscape for supplies to build the ultimate combat vehicle.

“Mad Max places gamers directly into the driver’s seat of their ultimate customized vehicle to battle it out in the action-packed, open world of The Wasteland,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production & Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We are very pleased to work with Avalanche Studios to provide a next generation gaming experience with robust fighting paired with dynamic vehicular combat."

“Over a decade of creating open world experiences has led us to this point,” said Christofer Sundberg, Avalanche Studios Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer. “The Wasteland lends itself incredibly well to the high level of player freedom with which Avalanche Studios has become synonymous. This unforgiving environment inspired us to create a gritty and diverse experience where driving, fighting and scavenging are essential for survival.”

Mad Max is under development by Avalanche Studios. For more information, visit www.madmaxgame.com, Facebook.com/MadMaxGame and Twitter.com/MadMaxGame.

Too bad it's not just 'In The World', where we make our own protagonist at the start.

I'm personally not real anxious to play mel gibson after his psychotic episodes. This could really go sideways and honestly I'm sort of shocked WB would take a chance on it. Especially with all the bad publicity he has had in the last 10 years. Guess they could go with silent protagonist.

Well Tom Hardy is the new Max and he may even be voiced by some other guy in this game.

That said, yeah it would be awesome to have some Saint's Row level customization, only with a post-apoc flair. Would also be neat if that level of customization extended to the cars, not just having weapon/engine tweaking like in Interstate '76 but having visual customization as well. Want skulls all over your car? Done.

I just hope this doesn't suck and has enjoyable vehicle physics and damage modeling. It's been a LONG time since we've had a good car combat game.

I wonder if it's things like these that convince a film director to do the movie. Rather doing it for heart, he does it for things like this (money).

<Film Director> Nah, I won't do a movie. Last time we tried, my partner died in helicopter crash when visiting the area we were planning to film at. So I gave up the idea.

<Agent> Nooo. You must! We can make this a whole franchise thing, and do a video game for it, and blah blah.

<Film Director> Okay fine, I'll give it another shot.

Was it just me, or did that guy look like he was going to make it? It's not like he'd had his legs blown off or his guts spilling out.

Also, wouldn't that damage your car?

Even IF this game blows harder than Rage in a wind tunnel, I'll be there, eating my can of dog food, with my trusty 3 legged dog Lucky by my side (real dog BTW), and a sawn off shotgun playing thehell out of this. I love this universe and its about Damn time

Where's the damn trailer for the new mad max:fury road movie!

They're still doing post production work, so probably not until the end of 2013, early 2014.

Also, the game and the movie are independent of each other. Although the game has elements of the movie such as the marauders, the new Interceptor design, and other things.
