Burbank, Calif. – June 10, 2013 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Mad Max™, a new open world, third-person action game where players become Mad Max, a lone warrior in a savage post-apocalyptic world where cars are the key to survival. The game will debut for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One® the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, the Xbox 360® games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows® PC.
Scheduled for release in 2014, Mad Max will deliver dynamic, open-world gameplay where gamers fight to stay alive in The Wasteland, using brutal on-ground and vehicular combat against vicious gangs of bandits. Players are challenged with treacherous missions as they scavenge the dangerous landscape for supplies to build the ultimate combat vehicle.
“Mad Max places gamers directly into the driver’s seat of their ultimate customized vehicle to battle it out in the action-packed, open world of The Wasteland,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production & Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “We are very pleased to work with Avalanche Studios to provide a next generation gaming experience with robust fighting paired with dynamic vehicular combat."
“Over a decade of creating open world experiences has led us to this point,” said Christofer Sundberg, Avalanche Studios Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer. “The Wasteland lends itself incredibly well to the high level of player freedom with which Avalanche Studios has become synonymous. This unforgiving environment inspired us to create a gritty and diverse experience where driving, fighting and scavenging are essential for survival.”

Go read the book, then watch the movie. As much as people say the movie never lives up to the book? The only thing in common the movie has with the book is the name of the protagonist, and the fact that humans are fighting "bugs". That's it. There isn't enough similarity there in the movie to even associate one with the other.
I hate those movies.
The first one is a classic. The sequels suck.
The movie is very different from the books, but the movie stands on its own as both a valid entry in the action-scifi genre, and at the same time a satire of it. Great FX that still hold up, a great score, and some great over the top hammy acting by Michael Ironsides. Would you like to know more?

HorrorScope wrote on Jun 11, 2013, 18:01:Open world is a huge plus, playing as predefined character isn't, even Mad Max. Why couldn't you play Mad HorrorScope? Honestly it's not my personal choice to run around in a gameworld for 30+ hours looking at some guys ass. As WyldKat mention Saints Row style character creator or hell any mmog toon generator would be better. It's the world that matters not the original name.Acleacius wrote on Jun 11, 2013, 09:43:
I'm personally not real anxious to play mel gibson after his psychotic episodes.
I thought we would be playing mad max, even then I couldn't care less.

A Starship Troopers movie done right would basically be a scifi Full Metal Jacket. That would be kinda awesome.
