It'd be cool if it was all one giant player pool.

You know that's a failure meant to happen. Shadowrun is a good indication as you surely know.

We're quicker and more accurate. PC gamers will always have the advantage. Always. Putting us in the same player pool as the consolies will be one huge disaster. Think, for example, about the devs trying to balance the gameplay in utter futility.

This is going to be a massively huge seller like all beth games, plus it will be one of the big games on the new consoles. Although, there won't be as big of an install base that early on in the new console's life, I wonder if the PC sales will outstrip the console sales this time around

You are right. This is a major bummer and just killed a lot of my interest. If this can be played on a controller that means this game will, most likely, be of the Neverwinter sort when it comes to complexity. That is not necessarily bad as I like Neverwinter, but I was hoping for a more complex UI and skill access control scheme. Yes, WoW style, in terms of macros and such. I'm a big fan of Rift so was hoping this would be like that in terms of combat. Not a fan of GW2 combat. To each his own. Maybe it will work out.
Thats a good point, I hadn't thought about the UI getting dumbed down. The even worse thing is, there won't be able to be any mods to fix any of beth's bugs or UI failings.

I'd sure feel more reassured that this won't end up being just like every other current fantasy MMO if it didn't... look just like every other current fantasy MMO... *sad panda*

Because June + 6 months = Spring?

For the southern hemisphere spring is indeed six months away. When I read the title, I thought it meant in the next two weeks because spring is now.

I previously thought the PC release version was due in the next 2-3 months, not 2014. Or is this just the console version. Now I need to search this again.

Perpetual debt is slavery.

I'm a little worried because afaik it has not been playable at any convention to date, even with a release date barely six months away. I was playing GW2 at Pax East two years before it even hit, 40 minutes a go.

It says spring 2014, why do you say six months?

Because of Blue's misleading title. He really needs an editor.

I don't think it's misleading at all, it's just that the game was expected out spring of -this- year, and then speculation of fall, so seeing a spring 2014 release date is a pretty big and previously unannounced delay.

I can't get excited by themepark PvE-centric MMOs anymore. I can't think of anything that model could deliver that would get me excited, or any IP that would make it more interesting.

The tech exists to make really amazing sandbox MMO with a focus on the players. And it wouldn't have to be as hardcore as EVE Online, or take place in the void of space.

I don't really like to feel like the other players might as well not even be there.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

Well I was apparently a "high chance" of getting in the closed beta, and am still waiting. Must be pretty small numbers at this point that they've let in.

Molag Bal was telling me all about this at our weekly poker night, over a roast hobbit and a few ales. He's pretty stoked about it.

I may have to give ESO a shot, especially since GW2 is no longer scratching that MMO itch for me. GW2 is great but I basically finished all the content, so now I need something new.

Considering the Elder Scrolls games have been playable on consoles ever since Morrowind...is it really such a stretch to imagine the MMO version being on a console? I've seen gameplay footage from the PC and it still looked good. It's already different than your typical mmo with left mouse controlling your attacks (hold to heavy attack) and right mouse for blocking. There are only I *think* 5 or so hotkey attacks that you can use at any one time (regardless, it's a limited number of powers you can have hotkeyed at one time). They can be swapped out for any other 5 abilities you possess. In single player elder scrolls you essentially had those attacks already on the controller. The only issue with dumbing down you'll run into is if console players need to "speak" with pc players (lacking a keyboard).

Also, there are a lot of reviews out there from people who have played the game. So, to say there has been no gameplay testing by media reviewers is just incorrect.

I have yet to see even a decent console MMOG, let alone an MMORPG. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the nature of the control scheme means that any MMO that is "limited" by being a console release will be less sophisticated than a PC only release. There's just no way around it. An action oriented game might perhaps find a way to be good in both environments, but I'm not holding out hope. I guess I kind of already already suspected that this particular MMO would be on consoles, but disappointing news all the same.
