Verdun Open Beta

The Verdun website now offers open beta access to this upcoming first-person shooter set during World War I, which has not been the setting for many shooters in the past. Word is: "Verdun is a squad based massive multiplayer first person shooter set in the first world war. Inspired by the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916 players are able to take part in never seen before WWI action. Made by 3 indie developers from BlackMill and M2H." Here's a video showing off some gameplay, and those interested in the project may want to support their Steam Greenlight campaign.

What an insanely stupid setting for a shooter. To be "fun" they'll have to be completely unrealistic. Well, that's what what most shooters are, in many aspects. But this has no chance at all to do the setting justice.

This is pretty much exactly what I expected a WWI game to be. Run around in a trench, step out, get shot. Awesome.

Has potential to be a fun MP game in WWI.

Speaking of WWI, if anyone wants to know more about the Great War, watch this awesome BBC documentary about it:

This is the equivalent of WWI as World at War was for WWII. Disregard that this documentary was made in 1964, most information is still up to date and the interview with WWI veterans are priceless, especially when you consider that there is no longer any WWI veteran and participant alive anymore.

Many myths about WWI will be broken by watching this awesome documentary though be warned, it's a rather raw documentary that holds no punches in showing human misery and death.
