Please dont lynch me, but Im thinking about getting a windows8 smartphone. They are dirt cheap, and look pretty & functional. (The OS makes sense on a mobile phone, who would have thought...) Should I rather go Android? This is my first smartphone and I dont really look forward to it but my old phone is dying as we speak.
I love my Nokia 928. The pictures it takes are fantastic, it does pretty much everything it does well, and I find the app selection fine.
But I'm not a huge app user.
And it still has issues. The lack of a centralized notification center is annoying, but it also doesn't let every app constantly inform you of useless crap the way iPhones want to.
You can't customize it as much as you can Android, but I have little interest in any of that anymore.
And multitasking sucks. You can't kill running apps other than backing through them. The fanboy response is "why would you want to? They don't take up memory," but that's idiocy. Sometimes I want something dead, and some apps (IMDB) require you to hit back like a hundred times to kill it. Other times you hit back, get to one screen, then hit back and get to the same screen you started at because it lets screens have multiple instances in the multitasking. Which drives me insane.
Otherwise? I love it. Simple, beautiful, fantastic photography ability, and fun. But... I've never owned anything else. I've used an iPod touch extensively and despise iOS. I do not have much love for the ugly design of most Android skins, either (which you can change, but will still be ugly.) I enjoy the liveliness of live tiles and the economy of design.
I will say, objectively, the best phone on the market is easily the HTC One. But the 928 does the things I want better than the One does. And, if it matters to you, it's $50 on Amazon.
