that is true nin but they were both a nightmare to market. Neither system found a large-enough consumer base that actually wants them.

I think we'll see something similar with the new consoles. They will sell, but not enough of them to propel them forward in the marketplace.

MS is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too arrogant with this new XBOX.....

The fact that they WANT get rid of used games

The fact that they WANT to have a always-on connected device

The face that they WANT to have a camera always on looking at u

To stupid people this is the next xbox, to us its calculated arrogance.

I don't understand the fuss about used games, I mean we (PC gamers) haven't had used games since the 90's.

I don't care about buying used games, but I would often give my old games to a buddy whose family can barely stay afloat and has no extra money lying around for digital entertainment. There was no issue of lost sales here, since the guy never would have bought those games to begin with. And there was no issue with both of us playing the game at the same time, since obviously I'd give the games to him when I was done with them.

MS now saying "Well, you can't do that anymore without a fee" (and the only word on said fee has basically been "it's 100% of the new value of the game") is fucking horseshit.

And then there's the principle of the thing. I don't take so kindly to the concept of a WeControlEverythingYouDo-Box. Ergo, no sale. Hey, it's only a couple of thousand bucks, MS. You're right that you wouldn't want them.

if used game titles are taken from the picture, that means digital game prices will have reason to stay higher. Fewer price-breaks and less seldom price breaks.

We already saw this with digital books versus used books.

For lots of reasons, I suspect both consoles will die a slow consumer death, much like the WiiU and Vita are now.

On a PC gaming site, "the gaming industry" is not consoles. And if Sony screws up like Microsoft, they deserve to collapse.

The Wii U is always an option if the other two consoles have required internet and spyware.

Of course, if the Eye is mandatory, without an internet connection to phone home, a lot of the concerns are mitigated (apart from the obvious one of cost).

Actually... it could still record and send shit later when you do connect for something like Netflix. So, no... it wouldn't mitigate my concerns... the only way to be sure is if the "Eye" doesn't have to be plugged in in the first place.

"Any DRM on used games will be left up to the publisher in question, according to Yoshida."
If that is true it would be excellent. Allow publishers to choose to have complex DRM schemes, let the market decide.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I don't appreciate being told that I have to be watched/monitored while I play a game. Frankly, that bothers me more than the used game issue. And if those are the terms, I can't see buying a PS4.

The 2nd hand market is no longer a deal breaker for me. I've learned to be patient. I'll wait for a product that in most cases gets a "game of the year" edition, all patched up and in a sale.

I simply can no longer afford £50 per game anymore. So I'll await for a complete product in a sale.

I'm also only opting for a single console solution coupled with my PC. That console will be PS4.. MS marketing really outdid themselves this time. Harness TEH POWUR OF TEH CLOUD

Could'nt agree more, I usually get all consoles for their exclusives! but for the first time, I think I will pass on Microsoft and it's xbox one, What they have done for the past couples of years and most notably with this ''next gen console'' is a total disregard for PC Gamers. So I will most probably get the PS4 but not at launch !

Same here, but exclusives seem to becoming less frequent and in most cases irrelevant, since most sequels hardly differ. My main gripe is how joe public is becomming fleeced into oblivion. I recently lost my job whereby had to cancel MS LIVE subscription, little did I know that my cancellation meant that I could no longer have access to apps such as Netflix, coupled with the fact that MS has now sold my screen to advertisers.

Gaming has always been expensive. I remember paying over £100 for jap snes imports and friends paying upwards of £200 for neogeo cartridges. However games are no longer offering value for money. Games like Skyrim are very rare offering upwards of 300+ hrs of gameplay. Instead, the market is saturated with 6hrs of fps with little in the way substance. The advent of DLC has meant that games can now be broken up in a modular fashion and sold to us. So I refer back to my original comment whereby I'll buy the game, but only once fully patched, with all DLC included for an affordable price.

This is old information from February. It isn't really worth anything. In fact the way he said it makes it sound like publishers have the option to block used sales (and if given the option, they will.)

MS could technically say that too. They don't block used, they just charge a fee for it. MS already said it didn't need an always online, just once a day or some such crap.

Until these things are much closer to release, no way to tell for sure how much the companies are going to try and screw the consumer. My guess would be they are both going in that route. But if one of them does the smart thing and is more friendly to consumers, that could be a significant boost factor in the sales.

Once a day is always online for all intents and purposes. And they never clarified how long that would have to be for.

But it technically isn't always on, so Microsoft or Sony can do it and say "we don't require an always-on connection" is his point.
