Borderlands 2 New Content & Level Cap Details

The Borderlands 2 panel at PAX East has unveiled the promised details on the new vault hunter and level cap planned for the role-playing shooter sequel. Polygon has word that the new vault hunter is Krieg the Psycho, saying this sixth playable character will be released via DLC in May (apparently not part of season passes), describing a berserker-style character derived from the Psycho enemy character. They have a trailer, but this seems to be marked private (there's a horrible cammed version on Kotaku), and the following description: "Krieg's actions come at high risk and offer high rewards, with his main action tasking him with rushing foes to kill enemies, which heals him — a necessary task, since, unlike Borderlands' melee character Brick, his health does not regenerate on its own." They also have word this will be preceded by the release of the Ultimate Vault Hunter's Pack on April 2 (which will be included with season passes), which will add new gear, and raise the level cap to 61. This will be released alongside a free patch for the game adding an "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode," which will give players "the opportunity to take their maxed out heroes through the game a third time." Also, Kotaku (thanks nin) has word on a new limited edition Loot Chest version of the game that will seek for a hundred bucks on Think Geek in May for people who love the game that much, but don't own it already.

The class feature sounds pretty cool...good on the level cap, too.

I hope this is the DLC that makes me pick this back up. I completely OD'd on this game for the first month then didn't even want to look at it. I just hope they don't make the Pearls stupid rare this time. Rare is ok, but they don't need to be as rare as the Crawmerax drops were. I think I found 1 and I killed him a lot on both PC and PS3.

Does anyone know if the "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode" will unlock the DLC so our maxed-out characters can play through it again?

As you know when going through "Normal" mode or "True Vault Hunter" mode you can only play through the DLC one time, spanning both playthroughs.

I wasn't aware of that at all. Thought I was going to get a second run through (of the DLC) post 50, and was waiting on the level cap increase.

Hi all!

My name is Randy "dickbag" Pitchford! I'll sell you a Season Pass that includes only a portion of the actual DLC we're going to nickel and dime your asses for! Yeehaw!

Normally I'd be inclined to agree with you, but they were very up-front with specifically what the season pass would encompass, and the only thing that's not part of it thus far is the new character.

So I'm less inclined to bitch.

Gaige (Mechromancer) wasn't part of the season pass either. Nor was the Creature Slaughterdome DLC

Yeah, I'm actually very surprised they're including the level cap increase with the Season Pass, as opposed to just another little campaign like the first three. Would have been so easy for them to hold it back to make the second season more compelling. If you find reason to bitch about that, you need to get a life.

I was looking for the 4th DLC but this is a damn joke! Why the fuck would I want to do a 3rd run? To keep lvl my char up?

Huh? I've done the DLC on Normal with one character, and it's available for me to go to on the TVHM playthrough with the same character?

True, but one was pre-order DLC and one was free if you bought the game new. So if you pre-ordered from gamestop or wherever, in theory, you got those for free. So you could obtain those for free as well.

I actually kind of get what they're trying to do here.

"Like this game? Help keep our developers employed so that we can keep churning out content for another year!"

The money-up-front model really isn't that different to how Kickstarter works.

I can also see that, since the market is now pretty much over-saturated for games, developers can't rely on games being actively purchased 10 years after release like they were for Diablo 2 or Quake 3. So developers that want to build content are more able to monetise existing customers than rely on new game sales.

I don't begrudge publishers for doing this, although most of the time I could care less about DLC and simply don't buy it. I kind of prefer the old model of larger, discrete "expansion packs".

What really annoys me is the hybrid model of releasing games every year and adding microtransactions or DLC. MtG:DotP and CoD, I'm looking at you!

Have something like 109 keys I was holding (used maybe 5 along the way) waiting for this level cap increase. Once that hits, then I will play through with my other characters. Gaige is so over powered that i quit playing after I beat the game with her. I think I have all but 1 character through the first play through that I was holding back for a friend.....

No. Maybe i'm not wording this right.
You know how when you beat the game on normal mode and then do true vault hunter mode with the same char, it resets the normal campaign to play through it again?
The DLC (scarlett, torgue, hammerlock) never get reset. You can only play thru the DLC campaigns once per character. You can either start it in playthru 1 (normal mode), playthru 2 (true vault hunter mode) or playthru 2.1. It never resets.

My question is, since i'm sure all of us with our maxed out chars have beaten all the DLCs, will the DLCs reset in "ultimate vault hunter mode" so we can play thru the DLC campaigns again?

Are you sure? I'm not at home, so I'll have to look at it tonight, but I'm pretty sure my assassin, who finished Pirate Booty in PT1, and is now in TVHM, can go straight back to Oasis and start over again. I'll check tonight.

If true, then yeah, that's really annoying, and I hope they'll fix that so you can do PT3 with it.
