DARK Gameplay Trailer

A post on the DARK website we missed when it went up a couple of weeks ago announces the release of the first gameplay trailer from DARK, the stealthy vampire-themed action/adventure in the works at Realmforge for Windows and Xbox 360 (thanks Jason). The clip shows off the game's cel-shaded graphics and futuristic environments as well as gameplay, including stealth and combat.

I'll just say this... I can't stand the cel-shading style, which is why I never bought Borderlands games... and if the dark outline can't be turned off, I won't even bother looking at it.

Dishonored had teleportation too. It worked well there because the levels were open-ended and had a lot of verticality. From what I've seen of DARK, its levels seem much more linear and flat. As for UV lights sapping your powers, The Darkness basically did the same thing (albeit with regular light). In Darkness 2, there are enemies that throw flashbangs and shine spotlights on you, which instantly disables your powers.

DARK seems like it will entail both stealthy attacks and using your vampire powers to get past your foes. Say you’re hiding behind one pillar and you see another you want to move to. You can select that pillar before you, disappear in a puff of black smoke, and appear behind said pillar. Then, from there, you can sneak up on an enemy guard and bite his neck, thus gaining blood to use for your vampire abilities. There’s a very "inFAMOUS" feel to the sort of powers you have, and it works perfectly within the world of DARK. Whenever you occur UV light in DARK, your powers will be sapped, so you must be wary. On top of UV light within the environments, enemies will also use UV weapons to try to stop you, so it’s going to take a lot of different tactics to get past your foes.

There's a mutilated torso with exposed boobs in this video. Deep Silver handling the marketing for this game too?

On a side note, does this game even use shadow-based stealth? Looks like cover-based stealth to me. If you're making a stealth game about vampires called DARK, a shadow-based stealth system would seem appropriate.

Uhh...yeah...I can skip this one. It looked uninteresting the first time they showed it, but I was hoping it was just some alpha roughness.

Good for them in making a new game, but who is this aimed at? Do Twilight fans want a stealth game? Do stealth gamers think the only thing holding them back is some tween exposure?
It just seems a bit generic in every regard.

This looks more like that crappy photoshop filter than cel-shading.

That Prince of Persia reboot and Darkness 2 had really nice cel-shading.

As for Dark, looks like balls in every possible way.

Shame the character is another guy in a hood, the art direction over-all doesn't look great either. Still it may be really fun.

Getting a Metal Gear meet Bloodlinesy vibe from it. Could be good, could also be super consolized. Not really digging the cell shading, either. Any vampires that don't sparkle are cool, though.

Now, where's my World of Darkness? >.>
