Last I heard the stats you can see in the steam client (ie, the tab top sellers) are flowing stats and per profit per revenue, not per sale. (ie, how much money did a game make, not how many copies sold) and it's most definitely not ranking how many copies a game sold. It ranks how much money a game made compared to everyone else per day. Or per hour (not quite sure, but most definitely not per week)
Thats the way the weekly ones are (revenue), because that's how valve defines them in the rss feed.
http://store.steampowered.com/feeds/weeklytopsellers.xml

BUT, the instantaneous ones in the steam client itself aren't weekly (could be hourly or daily or whatever) and could be pure numbers sold rather than revenue. Valve doesn't seem to define those much from what I can tell.

I looked up some names here on Steam using the public profile search, what I consider the biggest defenders of the game on the forums here played it less than 12 hours online and haven't touched it in days. I doubt they would admit it but I don't think there is much to the games multiplayer.

That's my other concern. Once the novelty wears off, how hard is it going to be to find a solid MP session. Argh. This game had SO much potential: set pieces from possibly one of the best sci-fi/action movie sequels ever, the original actors voicing their characters, awesome enemies, blah. Why can't someone make a solid Aliens game?!

I've been on the fence with Colonial Marines. After watching a ton of walkthroughs, I can see some of the things people are complaining about but, and perhaps it's just me, the multiplayer seems pretty solid. Even with the lack of dedicated servers, it still seems like there could be worse ways to kill a spare hour or two.

I love the Aliens franchise and tolerated the later AvP games (with exception of the last one which was horrid); the first two AvP games were fun.

Still, is Colonial Marines THAT bad? Is multiplayer fun at all on the PC?

I love the Aliens franchise and tolerated the later AvP games (with exception of the last one which was horrid) just to kill some xenos; the first two AvP games were fun. The chance to go back to LV426 and creep around Hadley's Hope with no Predators to mess up the game, just seems irresistable. Argh...

So, is Colonial Marines really THAT bad? Is multiplayer fun at all on the PC?

I'm pretty sure Bethesda will upgrade it to a GOTY edition by the time it depreciates to less than $20. So a $9.99 Skyrim may be even further off than it seems now. Like post-TES VI far off. And rightly so!

Well I'd settle for a GotY version with all the dlc for ~20 bucks of course. But to still have the price at 59.99? Inconceivable!

Still, I am like 3-4 years behind on bargain/sale games at this point, so it's more of an issue of principle than anything else. By the way, the 14.00 sale of Max Payne 3 the past couple of days (gmg) was entirely worth it, that game is hilariously melodramatic. Also by the time it's over Max Payne will have depopulated Brazil, there is no way there are that many armed thugs freely available.

ps. Rockstar Social Club... I curse thee.

Humanity, stop conspiring against the $9.99 Skyrim sale!

Borderlands 2 wasn't bad. It wasn't great either, I couldn't even bring myself to finish a second playthrough on my main character.

Someone dug up this comedy earlier: How Gearbox got the jump on the next gen in Aliens Colonial Marines

Yes well done Randy, getting the jump on the next generation with your amazing Aliens deferred rendering.

Well, they clearly had a new rendering engine... for the demo.

What happened?
Who cares by now. No one should be buying this.

What's amazing, though, is that while people would have complained about these graphics, anyway, people would have at least played the game if they hadn't also botched the gameplay. They seem to have gotten nothing right. At all.

Torchlight 2 is on top right now... because of Sale... so you know it's not a weekly stat ^^

It's by raw revenue, not profit. If it was by profit (which makes no sense) many games would be shut out of the list without gaming their margins to a ridiculous degree.

ACM also down to 1,537 players now. Below Dark Souls... and that's pretty drastic for a newly release AAA title...

The Top Sellers list on Steam isn't a very good metric for trends... I looked right now and it's at #9. Would be nice to know exactly how that ranking works.

And now it's back down to #12. If you follow Steam's top selling games on a daily basis A:CM seems to drop 2-3 slots every day since launch. Then the peak player numbers is a joke. It started at around 14,000 then slipped to 5,000 and now it's hovering around 4,000 and still slipping. We probably wont see hard sales data in a couple weeks, but I doubt it will look good for Sega.

This is like a combination of AvP3 and DNF all over again. The 360 version will sell the most at 300,000 units (a total shot in the dark here). Overall combined sales will be shit when all is said and done.

Even so, Dawnguard isn't anywhere near Dragonborn's coolness. Dragonborn is fantastic.

I think I actually liked Dawnguard better. I did enjoy Dragonborn, but the main story was over too fast for my taste and from start to finish it was never all that clear as to why I was even doing it. I think I just expected more backstory to be revealed and either it wasn't or I missed it somehow.

Still worth the trip, though, I'm glad I went back to Skyrim to play it.
