Lace Mamba Global Responds to Complaints

Lace Mamba Global has released the following response to yesterday's open letter from Amanita Design, Colibri Games, and Daedalic Entertainment over lack of payment and other contractual issues with the publisher:

In reply to the open letter written by Daedalic, Amanita and Colibri on 11th February, Lace Mamba Global would like to comment.

In January of 2010 Mamba Games Ltd, an existing company, run by Jason Codd and Robert Neilson, formed a partnership with Adam Lacey of Lace International, with the intention of forming a new games company, Lace Mamba Global Ltd. This partnership was widely reported in the media at the time. As this was a partnership deal, Mamba Games Ltd continued to trade as a company in its own right, retaining its pre-existing contracts that were signed prior to the formation of Lace Mamba Global.

Mamba Games sub-licensed some of its pre-existing contracted product to Lace Mamba Global for distribution in the UK and Eire. Where Mamba Games product has been sold to other territories, this was done directly by Mamba Games, selling Lace Mamba Global branded product to international distributors for which Mamba Games were paid directly. Lace Mamba Global recognise that Mamba Games (Jason Codd) pre-existing contractual obligations are not being met and we will do all we can to help developers to ensure Mamba Games are held to account.

As per our previous statement (, Lace Mamba Global also recognise that there have been some reporting and accounting issues in the past which we are actively working to resolve. We are pleased that those companies who we have been working closely with over the past few days have acknowledged that we have resolved their outstanding issues and we continue to work with and contact our other partners to ensure all of Lace Mamba’s contractual obligations are being met in full.

Lace Mamba Global are committed to regaining the trust of the gaming industry, we value our partnerships and will endeavour to resolve all the issues currently facing us. We would like to thank all developers for their continued patience while we review our contracts and report accurately.

Lace Mamba Global would like to state that we will not publicly discuss individual contracts or issues out of respect for confidentiality.

Short version of how I read it:
They contracted with indie game companies to distribute their games in other countries. The contract specified regular reporting and minimum payments, neither were satisfied. Mamba also distributed the game in unauthorized countries, and did sub licenses to other companies for flat fees without authorization. Multiple other indie companies had gotten screwed the same way (even more responded in comments from open letter on gamasutra such as IronCode Gaming). They all got together and sent registered letters and emails terminating the contract as per specified in the contract.

Mamba said they never got the letters (despite signed receipts), they never got the emails (no bouncebacks but their email supposedly malfunctioned only on those days that they were sent), claimed the CEO was fired so thats why no communication from them or him, and said Lace Mamba was different from Mamba Games.
Despite that days earlier he was still CEO, and actually listed as director for "BOTH" companies, and signed emails as CEO of Lace Mamba, and even though Lace Mamba is on the retail boxes of some of these games, and sometimes payments would come with one name or the other name on them.

But, after heated discussions Mamba coughed up most of what they were supposed to give, and agreed that those contracts were terminated.

IMO either the whole company is trying to screw people and tossing (or pretending to toss) that one guy under the bus as a scapegoat so they can sign more and screw more, or it was a rogue guy trying to screw someone. Probably best to just avoid the whole thing.

Yet another indie company that got screwed:
micro macro games blog post
They said they were forbidden to do any marketing or promotion of their game by mamba after they signed, so looks like they got screwed out of growth as well as revenue.

Is Lace Mamba some sort of James Bond villain? Or someone from the Metal Gear series?

edit: They should take it even further and come up with something like "Dishwasher Hognose" as their company name.

Lace Mamba is probably the codename for Beatrix Kiddo's 4-year-old daughter. Right? Right?
