Wow, even IGN bashed the hell out of this game in their review. Now I know it's real bad.

Gearbox was only developing the multiplayer portion of a game primarily designed by TimeGate Studios.

Does that mean that Gearbox developed the co-op campaign mode or that they developed the sad attempt at the aliens vs marines game mode?

So much potential here shot to complete shit. Still could be good for a co-op matchup when it drops to $2 on Steam which is sure to happen any day now.

Just saw another one where a large alien chases the marines, they run into a room and the door closes behind them, he comes in, door closes behind him, looks around, decides not to kill them, exits the room, door closes again, then thinks again and turns back around, comes in, and kills them.

There aren't too many review sites you can base your purchase decision these days, but at least they are a good source of info about the game itself.
If you go to youtube and search for gameplay vids you should have a pretty good idea what the game is like anyways. I know videos can not give you the same feeling as actually playing the game but since there is no demo that is about the best source of info you can get without going the pirate route of course which I wouldn't recommend.

This game's sales performance will probably be blamed on piracy anyways.

It sucks that this game is apparently going to fall short of even minimal expectations for a great many people. This franchise seems like it was made for video games and yet it just can't seem to come out quite right.

Hopefully a buddy will take the plunge and let me check it out. I too was hoping it would be good, but given the reviews so far I won't be purchasing it just yet. A playable demo might be the difference between me buying it on a Steam sale for 5 bucks in a year or so or buying it sooner for 20-30 bucks. I have been known to like a franchise enough to 'overlook' some glaring issues, but only after I have been able to spend some time actually playing it through a demo or at a friend's place.

There is no way they didn't know it was this bad and they still put it out.

I don't have much sympathy for them. If you make something that's flat out bad...it doesn't deserve to do well.

They are the ones trying to cash in with a crappy game, why shouldn't they be mocked a bit for it? Look at how much money went into making and marketing this piece of junk. People are going to point and laugh because it's not just a flawed game with some redeeming qualities, it's a spectacle.
