Diablo III Community Q&A - Patch Tomorrow

Battle.net now offers the promised first installment in their new "ask the devs" Q&A series for Diablo III. This points to this page with the answers to community-submitted questions about the upcoming version 1.07 patch for the action/RPG sequel, divided into sections concerning Brawling, new item crafting, gems, and classes, including first concrete discussion of proposed changes for the Monk "One With Everything" skill. Additionally, this post discusses how Blizzard is discontinuing the practice of reviving Hardcore characters as part of their account rollback service, so softcore hardcore players will no longer be able to perform CPR on their dead characters by calling Blizzard support. This change takes effect with version 1.07, and the post says the new version is expected to go live tomorrow in all regions.

I also tried PoE after you guys mentioned it so often here. All I can say is, I am amazed. This and a Diablo theme, and it could have been the true Diablo 3.
When I took a look at the skill tree, I almost fell off my chair, then I zoomed out and I laughed out in joy and then I scrolled down and almost had a heart attack because of joy.
Leveling gems, much more responsive controls, the way to find groups, the music, the graphics, wow...
This shows so well how much of a fail Diablo 3 really is.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

Three words. Path. Of. Exile. The more I play the game, the better its getting.

I agree, I'm glad I took a second look at PoE because I would have missed out on a great ARPG. PoE feels more like a Diablo game then D3 does, it's unbelievable how bad Blizz fracked up D3.

Yeah, D3's production values are higher than PoE... however, PoE is a better game by far.

I'm probably one of the few players who stuck it out in vanilla D2 because I actually disliked the Rune system and changes such as speed breakpoints which made me want to die a little on the inside for WW Barbarians which happened to be one of my most played character types.

I preferred CS over Baal runs much more too and the fact that rares, in spite of all the duping prior to ruststorm, were king with the exception of some gimmicky set items such as Angelic, Twitch and Swordback Hold BvB users.

The only reason I even start Diablo 3 anymore is to check the auction house to see if my "assets" have appreciated. Of course this only happens about every month or so, and around patch time. I just can't bring myself to play the game anymore. It offers only broken dreams with virtually no prospect of a good item drop; along with that, practically zero map layout randomization.

This patch continues the trend of band aiding a gushing wound. The auction house cut so deep, it will surely kill the game.

When the expansion comes around with Act V, the talisman, the Mystic, and team PVP -- I won't care. The game's design philosophy doesn't align with mine.

Blizzard, I'm done. No more.

... well, maybe until Titan

I think the kind of fundamental changes people are looking for will only come in an expansion. There's one scheduled for 2014 in that leaked Blizzard thing from last year. Diablo 2 was solid but nowhere near the classic it is considered these days until LOD arrived. I still have some hope.
Very true. In fact, vanilla D2 had a lot in common with D3: No exceptional uniques (so you were chasing fairly boring randomized yellows for the most part, just like D3), runewords didn't exist yet, nor gambling.. And the game was missing the (arguably) best act by far. LOD didn't really add or change much when you try to summarize it like that, but it improved the game tremendously all the same.

So yeah, I'm hopeful too. Though D3exp will have to make some pretty radical changes, starting with the ritual burning of the current item system and the whole game being designed around a global auction house. Every time I've started the game again to check out the new patches lately, I've been reminded of the ridiculous amount of time you're forced to spend in the broken wreck of an AH. And then I quit. And the phat loot, for all the bumps to drop rate, is still virtually non-existent. Oh sure, legendaries do drop, it's just that the chances of actually getting one with good rolls of the required core- and trifecta stats, is damn nigh impossible...

They've been moving in the right direction with recent patches, Paragon Levels (which I were initially highly skeptical of but turned out allright, though it's a bummer it's per-character and not per-account as it actively discourages playing multiple classes for all but the most die-hard nolifers)... At least it gives you something in return for the 20th run in a row without a single worthwhile drop. Then there's the craftables/grindables (hellfire ring + more to come in this patch) to work towards as well I suppose.. But when all is said and done, they're patching holes in the ceiling when they should just clear the rubble and start over. Then again, that would cause massive rage from the people who've invested countless hours and sometimes real money into the current garbage, so their only window for doing that is an expansion pack..

Oh, and dueling/brawling is a joke. I have no idea what took them so long with that. It seems about as balanced and refined as D2, i.e. not at all...

It's usually just a reference to the general polish level and quality of core game concepts like sound, map design and art assets. I've used the phrase a few times myself in since it saves alot of unnecessary typing. Mentioning the great gameplay redundancy is a worse sin, seems to follow every time someone is defending a problem in a game they like. As if people ever want bad gameplay. No reason gamers have to settle for anything less than great everything these days, subpar game elements are a failure of design, not gamers.

I've been keeping an eye on the patch notes for Diablo lately but I'm not seeing anything that will redeem it. They had the money and resources to do much better, I don't think I'll pick up an expansion for this unless theres alot of agreement on its quality.

This. Honestly, I've given D3 as many chances as I think I possibly could. Every single patch has been a let down since release. This patch sounds horrible and it hasn't even come out yet. I think there is no hope left for the game and I will not go back to it when this patch releases. I've enough wasting my time with this game.

I tend to agree with you but with Jay Wilson gone, maybe the train will leave the casual station and they will stop pretending that complexity is something to be feared. Diablo 3 is a very strong game in production values and some of the mechanics are interesting on the surface but it severely lacks in depth, customization and many features are too flat.

For me, PoE doesn't touch D3 for quality, but the mechanics are far, far superior. The build variation alone has me wanting to start 3 variations on the same class already.
