SimCity Closed Beta 2 Next Weekend

The SimCity Blog has word that a second closed beta testing weekend for the urban planning reboot is planned to begin on February 16th, and saying those interested should register on this page before signups end on Monday. The article is mostly a FAQ for the new round of testing, clarifying that it will be for Windows only, that testing will only run for 24 hours, and that the main purpose of this is to stress test the servers. Thanks Polygon.

If it wasn't for the ridiculously tiny city sizes I would probably check it out. I like how pretty much everything is actually a real time simulation now.

The face palm no buy moment for me when was I read that the game runs EVERYTHING on a single CPU core (with the exception of 'audio and rendering' that can be offloaded onto another thread). I couldn't believe it when I read that, who releases a game like this in 2013 and doesn't make it multithread-friendly?! Any RTS screams for a quad core, so one would think a heavy simulator like this would be a no brainer...?!

Really shot down my hopes for an increase in city sizes any time soon.

Where would those be? I'm sure EA will just ban those kinda accounts (and quite possibly all their games on their origin account too) On blues there's a few ppl who like it, a few who don't, nowhere near that many haters.

I'll be buying the new Simcity, but for kicks and giggles, I'll be reading over the 25 thousand pages of forums of haters that bought the game just to complain about it. Will wait for a good patch or two. But if is is severely broken as Diablo 3 was, then I will skip it.

From what I've seen (which is limited to PR and doesn't include the first beta), it looks like a deeper simulation due to the agent system. The interface may be simplified but on its own, that's good thing and doesn't necessarily mean the game is dumbed-down.

The city size does look poor but I don't imagine they're limiting it just to annoy us. If that's the cost of a more detailed simulation, in particular more realistic traffic modelling (even with the Network Addon for SC4, it sucked), that's a price well worth paying IMHO. If it's because they want pretty graphics, that's a shame.

I'd like bigger city sizes (without a performance penalty, i.e. have cake and eat it) and the always-on requirement sucks very much but aside from these not inconsiderable issues, I'm looking forward to Simcity very much.

Yeah, 4 is still a lot of fun. I have seen some screens with additional mods that really add a lot of new stuff

I don't know ...
Take out of the picture for a moment the DRM, the fact that you need to use Origin and all that crap ... come on you can do it for a moment!

The graphics looks good and all but it seems they focused a little too much of the fucking social of the game ... that nobody asked and the size limit of the cities seems kinda silly.

I could live with the always-on thingy ... but not with Origins. Never trust EA in anything.

But it looks like a dumbed down game with some extra polish to cover the underneath layer of rust.

I did play the previous beta Beamer, and I did like it.
It is much more stream lined then the previous SimCity game was but it still have some depth to it, from what I could play anyways. A lot of stuff was blocked, disabled in the beta and there was a 60 minutes gameplay limit so whatever you could achieve in 60 minutes type of deal.

Overall I liked it and will most likely buy it when it comes out.

I thought this guy did a pretty good job at previewing the beta: http://tinyurl.com/by8wz9s

Did anyone here actually play this?

The previews I scanned were all glowing, but all made it sound kind of fun. I'm not opposed to the always-on, as I'm always-on, and if this is pretty awesome I'd be willing to buy.

But it'd have to be pretty awesome, and while those previews have me intrigued I wouldn't buy until a few people here weigh in on the release version.

The signup goes straight to a Thank You page, anyone else getting this?

It's probably because I signed up for the 1st beta, although "For a limited time, pre-order SimCity to guarantee your spot in the upcoming beta!" should mean I'm in this one, unless they're scummy enough to only give this to people who pre-order now.

But it's not like EA to be shitty to their customers, so I'll be in, no doubt. *sobs*

I bought pre-ordered it.. for 75% off GMG Credits ftw.

But then, buying on GMG does not get you into the beta. Since you don't have a key until it releases... oh well
