Out of the Blue

Happy Groundhog Day! No, wait. that's not right... Okay, congratulations to the Ravens (except Ray Lewis) and their fans for winning the Super Bowl. It turned out to be an exciting game, though not as exciting as it would have been had the 49ers completed that comeback, especially with the conspiracy theories that would have provoked based on the wacky power outage. Oh yeah, and that last play was holding, if not pass interference. As Steve Mariucci would say, "bummer."

Okay, on to next season: The Giants pick 19th in the draft, which kicks off in late April. Kansas City Chiefs, you are officially on the clock.

Hey Verno, how is Ni No Kuni? And is it coming to any other platforms? It has my JRPG sense a-tingling.

It has some quirks in the combat system that bug me a bit but overall its a very cool JRPG in the same vein as Dragon Quest VIII. If you like JRPGs you will probably enjoy it. The familiar system is a little pokemon-ish but the AI for them is incredibly bad so that's one annoyance but it doesn't ruin the experience. It's on the DS and PS3 but I wouldn't expect it to appear anywhere else.

AAAAAAAAAAND... The Witcher 3 has just been announced.
Tadaaaaaa!

And I haven't even played Witcher 2 yet.
It's next after I finished Fallout: New Vegas (Ultimate Edition).

EDIT: Wow, it's no kickstarter! I hope it gets nevertheless some coverage.

no it wouldn't have. even if they did flag it, they wouldn't have blown the play dead. they still would've let the play run its course, and it's called a safety, and the same amount of time is run off the clock, and it's the exact same result. i'm pretty sure that's why they didn't bother flagging it to begin with. as far as i know there is no post-snap penalty that would've stopped the clock.

You're right. I have no idea why I thought they'd get extra time. My bad.

Is it because you think he did commit murder, or is it because he snitched on his friends at a whim, or is it something he did in his NFL career?

Please give me some quick coles notes

Many people believe he got away with murder due to status and money, there's not a lot of backstory beyond the incident itself. I'm not sure a guy who has had 5 wives and 4 children is really the type of role model I want youth looking up to either but I guess we're dealing with a league where people have much worse backgrounds so that's neither here nor there.

Sorry, I meant 3 minutes to go. Not three meters. It was actually more like 1.5 meters (five feet) to the goal.

It would have been 42-20 or something without the power outage. I was glad we had a game that was watchable than a redux of the 1990s when the Cowboys blew out whatever AFC team they ended up playing.

And yeah, Leon Sandcastle FTW, everything else was just lame.

I thought the offensive player initiated the contact, and that the no-call was a good one. The ball was catch-able, and it did land on the stripe, however when it was "catch high" it was in-bounds, or at least reachable for someone who was in-bounds.

Anyone else have the winning score on their squares till that safety? Cost me a $1000 end of game prize, and I saw it coming a mile away....but I was hoping they wouldn't do it since a free-kick could tie it....and Akers kicking off a tee is one of the more dangerous guys out there.

I actually won becaue of it. final score.

Was an exciting game to watch - not happy about the outcome, and I think the refs really wanted Ravens to win - although there were some bad calls/no calls on the other side too. The most glaring was that hold during the safety. Wow refs.....had the niners receiver "fell" on that last play when the guys grabbed the OUTSIDE of his jersey with WHITE GLOVES with the ref 10 feet away, it would have been called....pretty bad no call...

there's nothing that could've been done about that. the refs most certainly saw it, but they never blow a play dead when a penalty is called after the ball is snapped. the result would've been a safety anyway - any offensive penalty committed in their own endzone is a safety. so the result would've been the same even if they did flag it. the coaches almost certainly told them to hold like their lives depended on it.

really it's just an obscure little loophole the ravens were able to exploit. the egregious holding probably let the kicker run an extra couple of seconds off, which probably means the 9ers at least get a hail mary out of it, and with kaepernick's arm you never know what happens.

Yeah, it would have been a safety any way, but it would have given them a few extra seconds. (and again, it was a brilliant call by BAL Harbaugh. The first time I saw a coach take an intentional safety was Belichick, but he just snapped the ball straight out of the endzone. This was a much, much better play in every aspect.)

If the NFL had a fix in, it sure as hell wouldn't have been for the Ravens, who are a pretty much loathed franchise everywhere outside of Bawlmer, whereas the 49'ers are loved just about unanimously.

The big thing that cost SF the game was their two blown timeouts, both of which can be directly attributed to Kaepernick. With those two timeouts left, they have a minute and a half to score at the end of the game. Oh well, he's young, he'll get better at it. At least SF has a good QB again. After watching them fuck around with Alex Smith for 7 years, I thought they were doomed to shitty QBs forever.

Creston

Honestly i think what cost them the game was 2nd in goal /w 5 yards to go, not running it 3 times. I'm sure between Kaepernick and Gore they could of gotten 5 yards....instead of trying to throw it 3 times. They totally changed who they were those 3 plays, was ridiculous i thought. Well thats this armchair/hindsight coach's opinion atleast.

I choose to believe the 49ers lost because they lost so many gay fans the the week before the Superbowl over some silly comments from their players. I might be a smidgen biased in that opinion of course!

The commercials sucked for the most part, but the game was fun to watch.

Cheers!
