Police Quest Creator Plans New Game

This page features the official fan podcast for The Two Guys From Andromeda!, the Space Quest creators currently at work on SpaceVenture. The show features Jim Walls, the former police officer who created Sierra On-Line’s Police Quest series, and as noted on Facebook, this includes an announcement, as they say: "Oh and if you missed it, he said live for the first time he will be making a new game!" He speaks of his excitement that "all this stuff is coming around full circle again," and we can expect this to show up on Kickstarter, and he's "pretty sure" that will happen this year. Thanks nin.

I just played through the PQ games about a year ago, they were pretty interesting even now. You learn a lot about police procedures and the like (after dying or failing repeatedly for not following them).

That awful driving minigame could do with a modern update. It was quite unique for its time, but also managed to be both frustratingly difficult and boring.

I really haven't played a great modern cop game since Police Quest 3, and that was 22 years ago. That game kicked so much ass. More of that please. And none of the ridiculous modern-day "kick ass and chew bubblegum" action hero bullshit.

I'm hoping for a sequel to Codename: Iceman.
I really liked that one, and hated sales were not high enough for the sequel to get made.

I remember that one. Took me forever to figure out what you were supposed to do in the sub battles. Also remember how, when you played the dice game (can't remember what it was), it would detect if you were saving your game after winning each round, and eventually comment on it.

Yeah, the sub game was a pain in the butt.
And the game would really, really screw you over if you didn't do everything strictly by the book. Literally, since you had to have the manual to have the order in which to do certain things, and if you didn't you'd eventually get stuck at a point where you could not progress, and if you didn't have older saves you had to start the game over.
But still, fun game, they don't make them like that any more.

Yeah, I don't remember many games like that, but I think I ran into it on Iceman the first time I played it...it wasn't just "oh, you fucked up, game over!" it was "oh, you actually fucked up 6 hours ago and we didn't tell you, and now you've probably overwrote those old save games, haven't you??? tee hee!"

Thankfully that trend didn't last...

I never bought Police Quest (I was a kid with limited funds), but I played Space Quest a lot. Maybe I'll check out the Kickstarter.

There was always a certain "hilarious" factor of playing as a police officer. Needless to say, my gun was used more than it should've been.

SWAT was cool in it's time, but the whole FMV thing thankfully went the way of the dodo shortly after.

Police Quest was the shit! Way before you kids...lol

I remember trying to drive on that diagonal highway with a joystick in the first one - what a nightmare.

And that hint book with the marker. Ah, memories...
