I was talking about Lego and Minecraft!
But.. To me Sim City has no real lure, I am lured by building sims but if I wanted to build real metropolis like cities then there IS cities XL... I am looking for a more confined, realistic, in-depth simulation and don't mind cutesy looks or online only (in this particularly case, I have nothing against playing online.. yet, simply because I never did so)
Although I do think that the cities should be larger. But I am gonna assume it's gonna be either a patch or DLC.. ;p I mean this *is* EA after all.. ,p
Anyhow, I understand some people don't like online only... I certainly didn't like it with Diablo 3.... |

I would assume that's why it's got such a major lure to people. It's also much cheaper and practical than Lego and you don't have to "minesweep" your living room carpet... every day ;p |

Play SimCity 4 beta. Talk shit on forums or exploit bugs (technically "not reporting bugs"). Get banned from ALL EA titles.
Is that a proper summary?
If so, then what a load of crap. I want my $12 back from my recent BF3 purchase. That company doesn't deserve money with an attitude like that. No, it's finding exploits in the games beta, waiting till release, and then abusing them in the full game. To be honest, if someone found a way to crash the master server or corrupt regions and did not report it, i'd not just ban him for life....
Also the game is Sim City 5 .. not 4. Looks more like SimNeighborhood to me. Agreed. It looks like it was based off the same art concepts as The Sims. Which makes sense from a business perspective, but to me it just screams 'this game will be virtual Barby playground v2.0'. |

Creston is exactly right - if you are willing to take EA at face value when they say "oh we know it's in there but we won't be enforcing it" you either know nothing of how shadily EA does business or you are just screwed in the head. I generally don't sign up for betas but if I did I wouldn't touch a beta with a EULA like that for anything. From anyone, to be sure, but least of all despicable EA. |

At this point in my life I don't feel much of an affinity for any company I don't or have not worked for.
I mean, kind of Valve, and I'm definitely more lenient with Microsoft than more or less anyone else, but I can't think of any companies I feel strongly about one way or the other.
Hell, I don't even hate Apple anymore. |

Beamer wrote on Jan 30, 2013, 16:55: They were pretty upfront that they were going to abuse that, though. No they weren't. They played the same "Oh, that's just in there as broad language. We'll never do that," card. It took them a grand total of a few weeks to start banning people from their games.
And even so, this is a company that's already abused their ToS, why would you trust anything they put in their ToS? They've already banned people from all their games for bullshit reasons.
Then backed away from, went back to, backed away from, went back to, and makes you wonder if anyone at EA has a clue what anyone else over there is doing. They don't, because their management is absolutely terrible. Is that supposed to make me feel better?
Plus, I'm saying don't freak out and not play a game. But I am saying give them hell for it and make a stink and make them change it. I wouldn't participate in a beta from a company that pulls this kind of horseshit, but to each their own.
If I remember, they announced it as policy, then said it was a mistake, then did it, then said it was a bug and it wasn't policy any longer, then did it again... but they still announced it as policy first. It wasn't something sneaky - they told everyone they'd do it. It's what they did after that was sneaky. That makes no sense whatsoever. They always said that that language in their ToS was just in there for shits and giggles, and it would never be enforced. Then they enforced it, and tried to pretend it wasn't them being assholes, but that it was just a bug because, gee willickers, it's so damn hard to keep all these accounts apart! Said "bug" took a year to fix.
You have to basically be Mahatma Gandhi to still believe their "Oh, we won't abuse it" spiel. Again, they have already abused it even though they said they wouldn't.
I don't think I'm defending EA here. At all. I didn't really mean you by that. I was more referring to the guy who keeps trying to see how far he can ram his tongue up EA's asshole while posting the same fact-ignoring bullshit in every single thread. And there's a few more like him.

Because you're saying "oh, don't worry, it's just lawyers being lawyers. They'd never do something like that," when in fact they HAVE already abused their bullshit ToS. They were pretty upfront that they were going to abuse that, though. It wasn't something they snuck in, it was something they announced as intentional. Then backed away from, went back to, backed away from, went back to, and makes you wonder if anyone at EA has a clue what anyone else over there is doing.
Plus, I'm saying don't freak out and not play a game. But I am saying give them hell for it and make a stink and make them change it.
EA tried to pretend it was a bug. If I remember, they announced it as policy, then said it was a mistake, then did it, then said it was a bug and it wasn't policy any longer, then did it again... but they still announced it as policy first. It wasn't something sneaky - they told everyone they'd do it. It's what they did after that was sneaky.
I don't think I'm defending EA here. At all. I can't even name the last EA game I played. Looking at Wikipedia it was Crysis 1 and Bulletstorm - I played Mass Effect, Dragon's Age and Dead Space, but for 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 1 hour respectively. Definitely not a huge EA fan. |

I was using Valve as an example since they as a company tend to be put up on a pedestal. When you're using language like "precious valve" and being overly negative yourself, I'd say it's pretty obvious you care more than you want to admit. I've enjoyed more EA titles than Valve games too (EA has published hundreds of titles this is a no brainer) but that has nothing to do with EA continually making retarded decisions, getting itself in the news and people commenting on it. |
