I think beamdog finally got a clue that trying for an exclusive with BG EE on their digital platform almost no one has heard of was hurting their sales. Took them what, a year or so for their MDK HD thing to stop being exclusive? Only took months for BG EE.

As for the vids, I wasn't aware that they did anything with the vids besides the intro one. My guess is there was some licensesing issue or a technical issue with the vids and playing on mobile platforms. But to remove all 25+ of them and only bother to replace 10 is pretty lazy, especially since they did minimal effort on the ones they replaced.
Original intro from what, almost 15 years ago?
new intro:

From what I can tell, the intro looks more like casual flash games, in that they move static elements, didn't want to do much actual animating, and cheaped out on the whole thing.
Since I've always gotten the impression that the company cheaped out anyway to try and get customers on their beamdog exlusive platform, it just reinforces that. I think they paid interplay a tiny bit of cash (since the caen bros seem to be desperate to milk the corpse), got the rights to redo the games, put minimal effort and money in, and threw them up.

Wow, this sucks to read...apparently they removed some of the cutscenes, but didn't replace them? Had I known that, I wouldn't have bought it.

Great post and a stroll down memory lane. Thanks nin an Blue.

I wonder how many quarters I dropped in those machines back in the day....

I remember seeing a full size arcade style unit for sale at Costco several years ago. It had several different games on it: Asteroids, Space Invaders, Defender, Missile Command, and Centipede. I think those were the ones; I just remember it having most of the popular old school ones.
