A Best of Kickstarter 2012 feature has some eye-opening statistics on the year in videogame crowdsourcing. Word is 561,574 backers pledged $83,144,565 to 2,796 projects. Thanks nin via Kotaku.

It does NOT say video games. It says "games." It says "games" in 2 places on that page.
On kickstarter, the games category includes board games as well as video games.
The kotaku link you put in even says this:

Now I have a feeling that the vast majority are indeed video games, but board games are a significant fraction.
