Mass Effect 4 in 2014-2015?

Eurogamer.net has word that BioWare has stated Mass Effect 4 is to be expected somewhere from late 2014 to mid 2015, citing information in an article on GamerSyndrome, ignoring the warning it begins with that states: "This posting has inaccuracies in it and we ask that you don’t quote from this article or the news found within this page until everything is sorted out." Going along with that, Eurogamer has both a confirmation and a denial from EA that the speaker in this case was Mike Gamble, who apparently also said the date is so vague because the game has only been in full development for a month or two.

I'm going to have to go against the grain a bit here, I don't want more Mass Effect.

The gameplay was always half assed Gears of War with stats and wasn't really a big draw for me, it was a vehicle for the story. The story well...they sold me on the idea that choices and consequences matter but they really fubar'd that ending to the point where it shattered the larger illusion.

The dialogue and universe were much cooler in ME1, they started to pander quite a bit in the later games and I actually missed world exploration. Not the bland, auto-gen aspect mind you but the later games everything felt very walled in and consoley. The battlefields were small and limited as well.

So yeah I don't know, ME3 was a good game but it didn't inspire a lot of confidence about the next iteration and given EAs penchant for multiplayer pinning I'm worried that it will be some nonsense like Simcity where I'll be forced into arbitrary online related stuff.

The one thing I think could save things is if they do an ME1 style game (not going to happen because: EA), and make it self-contained. Then, your choices actually COULD matter, and it would restore a bit of the luster that's fallen off the franchise.

Also, early reports indicate that Mac Fucking Walters may not have anything to do with this, which is about the best news possible.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but even if I'll get it, it won't be on a pre-order, it won't be the expensive version, and I'll likely wait for a half-off sale.

Good job, Bioware. I used to buy your games unseen.

The ending of 3 was so bad that it sometimes is hard to remember I had fun up to that point. The frostbite 2 engine does large environments well so hopefully it means they go back to the ME1 drawing board with vehicles and explorable worlds (but done better obviously). If its another Gears of Effect like 2 was I might pass.

Had a lot of fun with Mass Effect 1 (despite the inventory.) Missed #3 since I hadn't even finished #2 yet. Also, the pre-release info was all starting to sound a bit "dudebro" if that's the correct word. Didn't need to see the next adventure of this person who'd apparently become yet another space marine, blowing up stuff, cruising for space babes and saving the universe. At lease Duke never took himself seriously.

Perhaps I've been misinformed and it's nothing like that, and if EA and Valve ever kiss and make up I'll probably find out. But to be honest I think it's just nostalgia keping me interested at this point. If it were random company X instead of the corpse of Bioware, I'd just ignore the whole mess and move on.

I'd like to see another game set in the same universe as long as it's not the same characters and save the universe storyline.

As I understand it, that is precisely what the new game is.

Right, they said Sheperd's story would be ending with Mass Effect 3, but they'd have other games in the universe.

Possible you'll hear mention of the other characters from 1-3, but I don't know if you'll actually see them besides a brief cameo.

Indeed, I don't play games for the endings... mhh, actually, if I did that, I would probably hate 99.99% of them.

Offhand I can only remember 1 game where the ending was awesome.. and that was Farcry 3 simply because it really did... well let's just say, surprise me. *hint* I choose the sexy native lady *hint* which ended in lots of sexy and stabbing probably more stabbing than sexy though. Too much stabbing for my taste actually.. I am gonna play it again this time with proper choice at the end ;p

I am with you. I hated the ending of ME3, I bitch constantly about EA/Bioware, and I won't be buying Dragon Age 3 or returning to SWTOR.....but there is no way in hell I could make myself skip a game in the Mass Effect universe until I actually don't enjoy playing one. That hasn't happened yet. I may not have liked the last 15 minutes of ME3, but the game as a whole was fun, just like the previous 2. Sign me up for another.
