grabbed it on steam, played maybe 5 hrs and dumped it the other night in a deletion spree of stuff i'll never look at again. Just didn't see anything in it as the engine beyond the player models looks horrible. Overblow sun flares don't make a environmental mood. And gotta love the whole bright white ice planet, guess the devs saw Hoth in ToR and figured hell we can make a brighter retina burning out planet of our own. It suffers from the Battlefield/Tribes design problem, all that terrain generated but combat is only in small areas. Should be aware of your surroundings if you decide to walk across the landscape, but then nobody would sit out there scoped to a area to pick off anyone like that. |

Im not currently playing but I had some great fun in the closed beta.
Hooked on Mechwarrior: Online (beta) ATM which is surprising given what a sorry state the game is in right now, but I guess the ease of earning C-bills and XP without premium as well as the myrad of customization options is whats holding me in its sticky web...
As soon as MWO lets me go Im jumping right back into the fray with PS2 though. |

Hmm, maybe that's a sentinel value, which is programmer talk for a special value. It likely indicates infinity.
Anyway, I read that tip from a dev post. When it's maxed like 99999 or -1, your game will be aware of everything the server can send you. Otherwise, it's distance in meters. They said start with values like 2000, and if that doesn't help then you can go lower. Again, the tradeoff is you won't be able to see targets as far. Personally, I wouldn't drop it below 1200. |

Otherwise, open your UserOptions.ini file in: C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2
Change the RenderDistance=99999.9999 or whatever it says to RenderDistance=2000.000000
This will restrict physics calculations and updates to things that are only within 2000 meters. You won't be able to see anything over 2000 meters, but your FPS will likely skyrocket! Hmm I'm confused, here is what it says for me: RenderDistance=-1.000000 A negative number and a 1!? That doesn't make sense in light of what you said. |

I played the beta and had some fun. Then I stopped playing. The endless base capture merry-go-round lost its appeal. I play hours upon hours per day. Am usually a top 200 Points per Day player. I have not seen 1 hacker. Whoever said there were "Tons of hackers killing the game" is entirely full of shit.
This isn't to say there aren't trolls who like to be douches in the warpgate with Galaxy's and try to flip other people over. But that happens in any F2P game, trolls are just a given. That's why anecdotal evidence is unreliable, both yours and his. |

PS2 is great so far. One of the best ways to experience the game is with an organized outfit, which gives things more purpose. Sure, there isn't a huge reason to cap or keep a base, but if a group of people make it their goal to hold a tech plant to deny the Vanu their precious Magriders, it makes the game a lot more entertaining to watch them flail around with just infantry and Scythes, which you can mow down with massed dual Burster AA.
But yeah, look into a big outfit like 666th on Connery, or if you want to put up with the queues on Mattherson (where most of the old players as well as Goons/Redditers went), you should check out some of the VS outfits like GOTR or Azure Twilight.
Or, if you're a real man, look into the Enclave on TR. BuzzcutPsycho's leadership will keep you entertained for hours. Like most leaders of large outfits, he realizes that new players are the future of the game should be welcomed, and he has about a dozen people actively recruiting at all times. One member of the outfit is even part of the dev team. Enclave isn't for everyone, but if you have the right personality, you'll love it.
If you want to see excellent examples of leadership from the front, check out his twitch.tv at http://www.twitch.tv/buzzcutpsycho.

SOE has been screwing the pooch lately with their MMOs. I see them attached to any game and I avoid it completely. |

I should say the 666th is the largest NC outfit. We normally roll 200-300 people at once every day. |

This is definitely a game where you have to work together. I tried going it with just my brother and we got largely hammered, especially because everyone else on TR that night must have had the same plan in mind, vs NC who totally had their shit together. They were handing it to us so bad it's like TR wasn't even there. With battles being so large scale you HAVE to work together on an equally large scale (which I think is a great element) or you'll just spend all night pissing in the wind.
I do agree that base caps are largely pointless. If one guy manages to get to a cap point for just a few minutes the point is captured. I think it'd be better if caps took like 20-30 minutes at their fastest to encourage longer and better planned battles. |

The longest running game I am aware of is Ultima Online, which has been active for probably over 16 years.
I started playing it in the 7'th or 8'th grade and am now 28 years old (and yes, I play on a free server). |

They can do whatever they like. I'm not supporting PlanetSide 2 financially despite playing it loads. Why not? SOE's fault because of their payment system's $0 authentication, stopping me from using any credit or debit card or even PayPal. If I even try to use a credit or debit card for a payment, my bank automatically flags the payment as fraudulent (due to $0 authentications being common for fraud), blocks the payment and locks all my bank accounts for "my protection". SOE refuse to change this so they get screwed out of my money (and anyone else's who's in the same situation as me)! I asked to be moved to ProSiebenSat1 so I can keep my current stuff and character statistics and perhaps be able to make payments there, but they also said they couldn't do that. So yeah, middle finger is the only response! |

I'd say I have some doubts about people playing this 13 years from now, but heck, Counter Strike has been going longer than that already, hasn't it?

I think the part of the issue here is everyone defends from inside the base, which is easy to get trapped in, while enemy continually respawns at their sundies.
There's no point to this unless they're just holding them off while other groups spawn nearby (i.e. outside) and take out the sundies. But then there's the enemy tanks, to get your own tanks the next vehicle spawn is so far away there's something else to do. |

By "supporting PlanetSide 2 for more than a decade" really means micro-transaction shit will get priority, not the usual bugs SOE loves to ignore. EQ2 is my case in point |

"Uhm there is no 'join squad' button..how in the hell do you find your group?! I clicked my squad leaders name all it said was 'send message' and something else..I could'nt spawn on them...really???!??" There is a massive difference between the game being broken and someone not having looked at the spawn/deploy tutorials. |
