Out of the Blue

I benefited from some of our family raving about Skyfall over Thanksgiving, as it inspired MrsBlue to willingly go see it, in spite of her strong aversion to movie theaters. We caught a show with a very light audience yesterday, which was pleasant, though in a sign of the times we still had an audible cell phone ring when there were only a dozen patrons in the theater. In spite of having some of the plot holes and silly clue following that have been hallmarks of the whole Bond series, the movie was outstanding, and Sam Mendes deserves credit for realizing his vision of placing 007 in a more realistic Dark Knight-inspired setting.

Today is World Aids Day, and the World Aids Day Website has suggestions on how to mark the occasion along with a bunch of HIV facts and statistics.

I'm not with you guys as much on Skyfall. I thought Casino Royale was much better. More depth, even if it dragged at times, and I felt the entire final chapter of Skyfall, from when you learn what Skyfall is, was kind of crappy.

Oh yeah.

SST I forgot they showed him. Yeah, he would be fine. Sorry about saying M being killed, I guess that would be considered a spoiler

Spoilers: Ralph Fiennes took over at the end... he's one of the few actors who has the presence to take over from Judi Dench IMO.

I could have sworn that at the end of the movie a successor was announced. One who played a role in the movie.

Here's a link that speculates, and I thought it was mentioned at the very end of the movie:

I assumed it would be the same person as the end of skyfall, but maybe that person isn't locked in?

Best Bond Film Ever. Yes Ever. Notice I said Bond 'Film' not Bond 'actor'.

Damn if only Connery were 30 years younger...

Craig is the best Bond by far IMHO. Dark and troubled, which apparently matches better with the novels. Unfortunately I believe he's already said he's done with the role. (hope I'm wrong)

You'll be happy to note he'll be back at least two more times.

A mouse is not something one should be changing with any regularity. Get one that will last and become accustomed to it until it is an extension of your arm. I had used an intellimouse optical for at least five years (and there was nothing wrong with it in the end, I just wanted to move on) before trying a Razer (bad idea) which was quickly replaced by the G5 I've been on for about five years.

Anyways the feel is the big thing. The G5 is infinitely more comfortable than cheapo plastic mice. The one-touch DPI setting is useful for sniping or other instances requiring finesse (like graphic design). Customizable weights is just gravy (I tried the G5 weightless for a while but I prefer a mouse with heft).

What he said.

Being able to change DPI from one weapon to another is priceless. I am currently using Razer Diamondbacks on all of my machines. I like the size, feel, weight, and the standard DPI is good for everything.

And while the subject is up, who is using a mechanical keyboard? I'm looking to replace my Logi G15 (the original model), still works like a champ but the backlight is on the outs and while the keys themselves don't show any wear, the rest of the thing is pretty haggard.

I want something much smaller than a G15 and I really have no use for macro keys, having long since abandoned using them. Figured I'd go in for a pound and get a Cherry-switch mechanical. I did all the research regarding the various styles of switches but since I'd be coming off decades of rubber dome I don't think any particular switch style would matter to me. I'm extremely tempted by the just-released Cooler Master QuickFire TK which has an incredibly small footprint and a full backlight.

Okay, for all you mouse-o-philes. Can you explain to me (maybe) exactly what benefits you get from a 60-100 mouse over the typical baseline 9 dollar Logitech stuff that I use?

I'm sure the expensive ones last longer, as I typically replace the mouse every 6-8 months or so, but on the flipside, I spend less than ten bucks on each one.

It's not really so much the money, as that I'm genuinely curious if there's 50+ dollars worth of noticeable difference.

Thanks

Creston

I bought the Razed MMO mouse (the Naga maybe?) though I never play MMO's because it had 16 programmable buttons and I like having all those buttons available. I paid around 70 bucks. It's an excellent mouse to be sure but I'm not sure it is worth the big markup.

Prez I attempted to load up your game list to see if you had any achievements in Snuggle Truck, and suffice to say, you killed Steam.

Nevermind worked on the 2nd try... (in best Sulu voice)my you have been busy

The first achievement I earned was "Terrible Driver". I turned it off after running it non-stop for 4 days so I could work on my computer. When I re-started Steam it showed I had 99 hours played. Now I am debating whether I should play it for one more to get it to an even 100.

Do it. I'm pretty sure the dev put in a "OMGWTFBBQ100HOURS??!!" achievement.
