I am amazed at how ill-prepared some of my relatives in New York and the surrounding areas were for this. My bro-in-law has no power, nothing to eat, and no means of communicating because he didn't charge his cell phone before hand or buy one of those battery powered cell chargers. He also can't go very far because he didn't fill his cars up beforehand and the gas stations that are even open are only taking cash, but of course he didn't get any cash from the bank before the storm. He has one flashlight and some birthday candles though.
Maybe that's why the news goes on and on about storms beforehand - people are dense.
