EDIT: missed some stuff:

Earning a shitload of money is of no interest to them. All they care is the short term growth of their investment. So they will pull out after the new console generation probably will fail in generating enough revenue growth.
Do they want that? I have never gotten that impression. I also don't get how consoles are dead to them. It's all they ever talk about. They pay good lip service to the PC when it makes them look benevolent but that's it.

Edit: And let's not forget those developers who were doing perfectly well producing their own games and then sold out to those same publishers. Here's looking at you Bioware.

Diversification sends them packing. It's better to bet on 3 or 4 massive 'AAA' titles a year, rather than to have 3 or 4 times that number of mid-budget titles across several genres. If it's not selling like CoD, it's not selling.
They have to deliver a huge revenue growth or else ... the investors will pull out. Which they will do anyway because the near hysterical growth rates of the recent decade cant be reproduced anymore. The market is saturated and no new console can change that. Sure, you can still make millions of dollars with console games, make a hefty profit, but there is no more additional growth. And therefore consoles are dead to them.

With the all the game developer talent in the world, I just don't understand how we don't get more games of the scifi/cyberpunk variety like CDP RED are promising. The Witcher reskinned and restorylined into cyberpunk would be GoTY for a lot of people just on paper, with the depth the developers put into that game.
I look forward to Cyberpunk a really unhealthy amount. A mature RPG set in that kind of world would blow my goddamn mind.
With how well the Shadowrun Returns kickstarter did without even a glimpse of what the game looked like (which we're now seeing is looking very, very good), the genre is an untapped goldmine.
Over a year to wait for this. Probably two. Painful![]()

This.
CD Projekt... the developer that removed the DRM from their release in a patch, without communicating it to their publishers. Haha, fuckign heroes!
They got sued for that...

According to: http://digibutter.nerr.biz/topics/178989
/namco-bandai-wins-in-witcher-2-distribution-dispute
(URL too long)
"The court did not venture an opinion on Namco Bandai's suggestion that CD Projekt had violated their agreement by spontaneously disabling DRM from PC versions of The Witcher 2."
However, that same French court did hold that Namco Bandai was entitled to The Witcher 2 distribution in the Western Europe, Central or South America, and the Asia-Pacific regions, not THQ as CD Projekt asserted.
